Do you think your career progress is being thwarted by your inability to make a parallelogram?

Finding papers that have been copied off of the sites like gradesaver.com is never a good way to finish out the weekend before a major holiday.

I tell them and tell them. I say, "As soon as I see the word "superlative" in your essay on Beowulf I'm gonna know that you bought that sonuvabitch. So don't TRY IT."

And yet, they do. Every damn semester. I'm at a loss to explain the reasoning there.

The assignments aren't that hard. It's a history class, therefore you have to write for me. Only two papers, though. And one of them's a movie review. And on this last one I give them the option of comparing Beowulf to a modern hero like Frodo or Neo or Spiderman as long as they give me some historical context. They can use the whole journey model, if they want too.

That is, of course, if they don't want to write on "Gilgamesh," (Enkidu's role, Sumerian society as chaotic and Enkidu/Gilgamesh a reflection for their desire for balance) "The Wife of Bath," (women in Medieval society) The Prince, (which I totally write for them in class and in which they can discuss modern Machiavellian politicians), "Helen," (er, women in Greek society AND Euripides as social critic) or "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" (Chivalry. Um and its impact on women - turning them into idealized, motiveless objects, etc. OKAY, so I warn them at the start that I emphasize women's history a little bit. Can't help it.)

These papers are due (I've been looking at plagiarised drafts) tomorrow and Tuesday.

Then finals. Then, thank god, I'm done. Until I have to prepare for the Modern World class in the spring.

When I wasn't dealing with the frantic emails, though, I was having a pretty good time watching the Broncos. We shut out the Jets, which I kind of expected. But I was actually looking for a higher score. We should have been able to put more points up against a team with as many problems as the Jets. So, I'm very concerned about the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. We only have three days to rest and the Cowboys will be the best team we've faced since the Eagles almost a month ago. We're looking at 8-2 now, and it's the best record we've had since our last Superbowl season.

I almost hate them for getting my hopes up.

And of course, there are the Nuggets. They just keep barely winning. We beat Memphis tonight and they're a good team, but next week alone we have the Wizards, the Pistons (Holy Mother of God they're going to KILL us. Just beat the everloving shit out of us), and then the Clippers.

Poor Melo. I think he hurt himself tonight - bruised a thigh or a knee or something. And it's just him and Marcus Camby holding that team together.

Speaking of Melo . . . (apparently, he's made some unfortunate choices about who he lets catch him on camera.)

horizon_greene: tim duncan is officially the most boring player ever, i have to say
shadow_shimmer: his personal life or just the way he plays?
horizon_greene: the way he plays
horizon_greene: i don't know anything about his personal life
horizon_greene: but i doubt it can beat appearances in DVDs about drug dealers
shadow_shimmer: ha!
shadow_shimmer: that's my wittle melo
horizon_greene: i just want to squeeze the life out of him

. . . I think I'm going to show a video in class tomorrow.

sports, work
