weekend

Friday:

We were invited to a family friends' thing in Mississauga. Liz had never been there before. They live in a mansion. Seriously. I think the kitchen alone is quadruple the size of our main floor. The basement has a 70" screen, table tennis, foosball, pool, air hockey, darts, a hottub, a bar, a bedroom, bathroom, second kitchen. The master bedroom is actually 4 rooms: a prayer room, the actual bedroom, a changing room with 3 walk-in closets and a bathroom. The place is intense.

It was a bit awkward being in between the "kids" and the "adults", but it worked out in the end. We ate dinner with the adults and had ice cream cake and candy with the kids.

Saturday:

We slept in, which was glorious.

We went to the Waterloo Market, and then the St. Jacobs Market. It was a fun time. We went to see Dan (i.e. Liz's brother)'s friend Kevin at his booth. Then Kevin had to leave but we still had to buy something... but the person we had to buy from came to us - turns out she's one of my mother's old friends Charlene who was at the wedding. Liz asked if she was related to Kevin, and she is his sister! Small small world. Charlene asked Liz how we knew Kev, and when Liz mentioned Dan, Charlene said "Your brother is Dan?" (as she's probably heard Kev say he's hanging out with Dan a million times).

We bought some tasty garlic butter and horseradish from her.

We had to clean the house since we invited my grandfather over for brunch on Sunday. The place was a disaster but we worked at it at a reasonable pace (Liz at a more reasonable pace than I) and we got everything cleaned up. We then went and got wedding gifts from my parents' place and brought them over and messed up the house again while opening them.

We were invited over for dinner at one of my parents' friends' family's place. I hadn't been to their house before, and it was a mostly new crowd (though some of our neighbours were also there).

We had some fun appetizers. This wasn't a Bengali family so their choices were different from the average ones. My favourite was this cool snack put together in front of us on the deck: you had these little thin fried shells (shaped like an egg, with a small opening), stuffed with a potato filling (on the fly by my mother), filled with an iced spiced broth (on the fly by the hostess), and handed to us in a bowl. We were to eat the whole thing in one bite. It was really tasty and fun, and I had 6 or 7 of them. Apparently it's something you can get on the roadside in India.

We again had the now that we're married are we kids or adults? dilemma, but we decided that we were kids and hung out in the basement and played table tennis and watched a crappy movie. I don't play table tennis, but it's really fun! We weren't the oldest ones there though - there was a UW Masters student who was apparently a frosh leader the year I started. The others were teens though.

Sunday:

We got up at 8 AM. Yuck.

We cleaned. Ugh.

Liz cooked up a storm. Mmm.

I rushed out in the morning for some last-minute shopping... and to rent Guitar Hero: Aerosmith before all the copies were gone. (Totally not worth $60 to buy, but a $10 rental is certainly worth it.)

My family incl. my grandfather came for dinner. We had from-scratch raspberry waffles, delicious bacon, equally delicious apple cinnamon sausages, and strawberries. I think everyone really like it and everyone was stuffed. MMM good food. Liz is a radical maker of food. We chilled a bit after and then my family went home so my grandfather could watch soccer.

I stole Shomik and we rocked Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for 3-4 hours until he couldn't take it anymore. Unfortunately playing through co-op and unlocking songs does not unlock those songs for single-player, so I have to play all that over. Dammit. The asshole game also didn't give Shomik a lot of the achievements I got even though we did everything together. Still, it's decent. I was going to be disappointed if they focussed on new stuff and missed the 70s stuff, but it's the opposite problem: the songs I grew up with aren't really there. This is a game for Aerosmith fans of old, and most of the "Greatest Hits" present on the post-Get a Grip era are absent, even in the bonus tracks. That seems, well, fucking retarded since it's a game dedicated to the fucking band. Forgive my immature nostalgic childhood taste, but I want to play Dude Looks Like a Lady and Eat the Rich if I'm going to the trouble of playing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith!

During that time, Liz made some homemade ice cream. We got to tasting it by the end of our session and MMMMMMMMMMMM. Delicious.

I tried to make dinner after that, but apparently I can't handle that so Liz sorta took over, and then we had dessert with Dana, dessert being more ice cream.

We watched The Namesake (or rather, they watched The Namesake while I surfed the net, did some dishes, and played TF2), and then Paul and Andrew came over. We watched a bit of the Stag and Doe DVD Andrew made for us and then I sent the boys on their way.

I got in some more GH: Aerosmith before bed. I haven't gotten a lot of Achievements lately, so the sudden influx of Gamerscore has been like crack. I already have 225 from GH: Aerosmith.
