A few random thoughts

We took our car in yesterday and the repair it requires will cost around $500 - there is an oil leak in a somethingerother around the somethingerother that requires they take out the engine, a process which will take several days. We suspected it wasn't minor and kept putting oil in but lately the oil light comes on every two days. At least we don't need to replace the engine. One of the other customers waiting thought we were lucky to still be driving our car with the mileage we have on it. *sigh* We have to wait until the next paycheck and save from this one and the next one to do it, but 2 weeks should be an okay time to wait. The mechanic was really dramatic, came in and had us come stand under the car (I didn't need to see it, my driveway says the car leaks oil, and I was wearing work clothes! gross!), so we're going to call his rival to see if maybe he has more updated equipment that won't make it such a major repair. The worst part isn't the money, it's that we will need to leave it there for several days, meaning we'll have to rely on co-workers to take us to work. Or the local taxi company, who is composed of one man, the man who would have been our landlord in the unlivable house we got our deposit back from. So... don't really want to call him, although enough time has probably passed where it doesn't matter.

Going to finish up putting together my tea swap box today, and should mail it Monday.

Finished my Grandma's scarf today, the one I didn't finish for her Christmas present. Inexplicably, while most other scarves didn't take more than one skein, hers was being greedy and took two. I found a use for the other scarves I didn't give away, so that makes me happy - my aunt in oregon has been selling scarves to raise money to go see her daughter in Thailand, so I'll probably just pack them up and mail them to her so she can sell them.

We checked out Empire Falls (the HBO miniseries) from the library and it was really good. Of course, I really loved the book, so I wasn't surprised to love the miniseries, but they also picked really excellent actors for the parts. I found out yesterday that they are making a movie out of Augusten Burroughs' Running with Scissors and that should be interesting, for lack of a better word. I can definitely think of moments in that book that I would not want to see on the big screen, in fact, would be happy to have never read about at all.

I'm going to see D- today and have Indian food. My life is so different from two years ago, when I did stuff with friends almost every week (between librarian friends and B- and L-) but now once a month isn't even that common. Of course, I shouldn't sell him short, I'm married to my best friend. But still, the other friends are too infrequent. I do have several people I'm friendly with at work but it's hard to jump that gap between co-worker and friend.

I need to put together another application packet this weekend, and that will be two jobs applied for so far. That will be my mission for tomorrow.

movie, car, job search, knitting, friends
