A quick moderator note regarding bonus stories

Apr 17, 2008 22:27

People have been sending me bonus stories to post for the ficathon (i.e. stories that they wrote for prompts other than the ones they were assigned). On the one hand, I really do appreciate the effort, and I don't want to turn anyone's story away -- more stories in the ficathon, after all, is better for everyone. I've already posted a few of these bonus stories; I honestly didn't realize, the first time it happened, that I'd get more than one!

However, at the start of the ficathon I did sign up one author per assignment -- each genre/prompt combination was assigned to a unique individual. I don't want any of the assigned authors to feel unhappy or uncomfortable with other people writing their prompt, especially when they've worked so hard to get their stories done and turned in on time. So any additional bonus stories (should there be any) will be posted at the end of the ficathon, when the last of the assigned stories have been posted on time. I apologize for not making a policy about this already and sticking to it, but I honestly didn't realize it would come up, let alone that I'd wind up with as many of them as I did, and have been pretty much winging it. If you've sent a bonus story, please don't take this as a criticism; I'm sure no one will complain about having extra fic to read! But I do feel that I need to be fair to all the authors, and this is the best compromise that I've been able to come up with. Once again, I apologize for not having a policy for this already in place.
