This month, I had the pleasure of reccing in the Gen and Jack O'Neill categories in
stargateficrec . While Gen is an old and valued friend, this was my first month reccing for Jack O'Neill. Silly me, waiting so long!
Please note that the links lead to the full recommendation in
stargateficrec and not to the fics themselves. All stories recced this month are gen.
The master list of fic recs can be found
here. Here are this month's gen recs:
Under Fire, by Strix varia (PG-13) Two, by Carin (G) The Good Wife, by Julie Fortune (PG-13/R) The Price of Admiralty, by Gravity Not Included (G) Untitled S10 Snippets, by Emily (PG) Absolute / Better To Light A Candle, by Redbyrd (PG-13) Caissa's Muse, by Rigel (G) Gavilan, by Elysium (PG) While nearly all the recs on the master list are gen, specific previous gen recs are
here.
Here are the recs for Jack O'Neill:
Face-off, by Jennghis Khan (PG) Leftovers, by Achaea (PG-13) Speaking in Acronyms, by Random (PG-13) Four Times Jack Cried…, by Niamaea (PG-13) You Can't Judge a Man by the Cut of His Cloth, by Tallulah Rasa (PG) Sierra Hotel, by Charli Booker (PG-13) Roll With the Punches, by Izhilzha (PG-13) Starting Over, by Redbyrd (PG-13) When I looked over my list of previous recs to see which ones deserve to be included here, I was surprised - and amused - to realize that many of my absolute favorites feature Jack quite prominently. My adoration for Daniel seems to have blinded me for my obvious appreciation of Jack!
A Circle of One's Own, by Jonah in the Whale (PG) - A fun teamy goodness story, where the team, and the rest of the SGC, is forced to take IQ tests. Jack doesn't do testing very well. More of a friendship and character study than a humor fic, but absolutely delightful.
Been There, Done That, by Martha Wilson (PG) - Written by the same author of the excellent Retrograde series, it should be no surprise that Jack is characterized perfectly in this entertaining crossover fic.
Vindication, by Brenda Anders (PG)- Funny and perfectly Jack. Daniel has to face his former peers; Jack has his own ideas about how to smooth Daniel's path.
A Rock and a Hard Place, by Sam Walker (PG-13) - This one is on my top five list. Teamy goodness and great SGC support, but the main part of the story is Jack, doing his best to keep Daniel going through the tenuous connection of the radio. Wonderful stuff.
Numerology, by Random (PG) - My favorite Random fic, and one of my favorite fics, period. It covers the gap between Revelations and Redemption, taking us through the eight attempts to find a replacement for Daniel before the team took Jonas. An incredible character study of both Jack and Daniel, and one of the best Jack voices, ever.
Yet Another SG-1 Adventure, by Minnow (PG) - Jack gets summoned to the SGC, mid-S9, to deal with an SG-1 crisis. And zombies!
A Vacation at Jack's Place, by OughtaKnowBetter (PG-13) - Tough, competent, black ops!Jack, taking control even in the wilds of Minnesota. What's not to love?
Roses in December, by Rheanna (PG) - One of my top three favorites. Absolute amazing teamy goodness as Jack struggles with the loss of everything that makes him who he is, and the rest of SG-1 risks everything to get him back.
Free Fall, by Eos (PG-13) - Jack and Daniel trapped after an explosion. Fortunately, Daniel doesn't die on Thursdays, even if Jack cheats at Hangman.
Rock, Toilet Paper, Scissors, by Tallulah Rasa (PG) - Another of my top three. SG-1 trapped in a cave, discussing the meaning of life, the universe, and toilets.
Stay in Touch, by Tefnut (PG-13) - Very powerful Jack and Daniel friendship drama, with a generous serving of teamy goodness on the side. The two of them trapped offworld, reduced to the absolute basics - and with Daniel forced to expose himself to insanity in order to communicate, it's up to Jack to keep them both grounded, and alive.
A Million Days, by Tallulah Rasa (PG) - Mindblowing AU of Window of Opportunity. Just what would Jack do if the circle didn't break?
Ripples, by ELG (R) - Another one of my top three favorites. (I admit there are more than three "top threes," but what can you do?) Maybourne has Daniel snatched as payback for the events of Shades of Grey. Jack is determined to get him back. Teamy goodness, a great portrayal of Makepeace, and a fantastic look at the sheer stubbornness of Jack and Daniel in the face of all odds.
The Undefended Territory, by Julie Fortune (PG-13) - Amazing, powerful, wrenching fic. Trapped beneath the ice, Jack and Daniel have to make the ultimate emotional sacrifice to save each others' lives.
The end of March marks one year since I first started reccing for
stargateficrec. I'm frankly astonished that it's lasted that long. :) My thanks to the marvelous admins there, to the supportive community members who let me know they appreciate the recs, and, of course, to the amazing authors who keep writing wonderful stories for me to rec!
If anyone wants to commemorate this - not that I'm suggesting anyone should - I would love some more fic to rec! Especially Daniel and Teal'c friendship, which is a rare and beautiful thing indeed.
If you have some personal favorites of your own, why not
sign up to rec? You need only commit yourself to four recs over the course of one month in your category, and the mods are extremely helpful - and here's the
Stargateficrec FAQ.
Help spread the SG-1 love! :)
