Five ways it ended happily for Daniel Jackson SPOILERS for 10.19 DOMINION, Warning: CHARACTER DEATH maevebran June 18 2007, 06:30:49 UTC
1. Daniel was blissfully happy. He had managed to get Sha're through the gate before Haru'ur got to Abydos. Sha're had given birth to a son and Amaunet re- emerged but She was in a holding room back on Earth. Daniel had managed to keep both mother and child safe from the NID. A few weeks later, SG1 met the Tok'ra and managed to get the symbiote out of Sha're. Daniel lived on Abydos when not on active duty, with his wife, step child, and his sons and daughters. The whole crew drove him nuts but he wouldn't have it any other way. Daniel knew he had it good, after all he had visited an alternate universe where Sha're had died and her son Ascended, when his SG1 had accidentally been pulled through while looking for the cure to the Ori plague. The only thing that could possibly mar his happiness was the fact that the Ori were still around but Daniel knew they would eventually be defeated just as the Goa'uld had been ( ... )

5. Daniel was at peace. Adria had killed him for the final time and he was once again Ascended. This time though, with the help of Shifu, Skaara, and the other Ascended Abydonians he had managed to convince the Others that interference wasn't always wrong. The Others had beaten back the Ori Army and Priors. The Ori themselves were gone, thanks to Daniel's own actions while a Prior, so the Milky Way was safe. Daniel was allowed to help and visit his friends so the Ascension wasn't hard. In fact he could continue to research and study cultures and languages at the SGC as long as he didn't use his supper funky powers, except as a defense of his team. Out of deference to the Others, though, Daniel didn't often go off world where those powers might be needed.

Academic!Daniel can be happy in a lot of different situations, can't he?

And, finally Ascension that makes sense! I mean where's the fun in all those rules and taboos? Hang out with your old friends, pursue your old interests - that's the way it should be. :-)

Only 3 for this one! All AU of course.

1. The Abydonians never uncovered the gate a year later. Daniel was too busy at home with Sha're and their son, Jack. They lived out the rest of their lives peacefully.

2. Daniel stayed Ascended, never interfering with Anubis, just...nudging things a little so SG-1 would win out. His horror at Abydos being destroyed was balanced by having the people he loved on the same plane as he was. Six months later, he helped Jack and together they changed all the rules that had been in place. They now spend their time wandering the universe.

3. With the defeat of the Goa'uld, Daniel had only one goal in mind, Atlantis. Jack let him go. Daniel didn't question it, just packed and went. When the Deadelus arrived a year later, he wasn't surprised to see Jack disembarking with a grin.

One and two....

1) After Sam got done futzing with time, she figured out where the Ancients--and frankly the Asgard, too--had gone wrong. It took her a few months to work out the kinks, then she sat down with General O'Neill and Teal'c and talked about it. The pros, the cons, the ways this could all go wrong. It took five minutes to reach consensus. They went back, grabbed Sha're's body from the morgue, left a fake to be buried in its place so that didn't change. It took a sarcophagus to revive her and the help of the Tok'ra to get the symbiote out. But the Tok'ra had long wanted go get hold of Amonet to find out what she knew and see if they could genetically engineer a queen to replace Egeria. The only real question was what would be Daniel's reaction--but O'Neill was right. Daniel took one took, and the emotions passed over his face in quick flashes--shock, then fear, then panic, then astonishment, then worry, then hope, then uncertainty, and a dash of anger before it all stripped away to just Daniel making some new discovery. Three and the rest...

3) Heliopolis was still there. They went back on the newest ship built after the Ori had been defeated--the Persephone--took a 'gate with them, established a full research outpost. Surprisingly, Vala stayed--she insisted a place like this had to have something more buried here, and she'd become a surprisingly good assistant, insightful and the only one who could argue Daniel to a standstill. Teal'c stayed, too, because this had once been a meeting place--a UN of planets--and he and Bra'tac were now forming independent Jaffa states that would work in cooperation. Never again would the Jaffa be imperiled by the destruction of one world. Sam stayed, too, since there was work to interface the knowledge of the Asgard database with what was here. Cam didn't stay, but he gated in and out once a month or so with the newest SG-1, just to check up on everyone's progress and safety. And Jack came because of the fishing. At least that was his story and no one could get him to change it.

4) Daniel retired after Adria retook ( ... )

I like #2 for Daniel's need to have a battle/challenge to face - and the love of teaching is a wonderful capper.

Heliopolis, surrounded by his friends - must be close to heaven for Daniel.

Oh, wait, heaven might be #5. ;-)

#5 is... perfect. And it jives totally with my personal take on the fact that ascension isn't all the perfection it's cracked up to be. No, the way to go, is to take on the great adventure head-on.

Much love for your list.
