The Rant

We'll start with the bad so I can end on the good note...

So ever since I heard Baby Honda is getting a salvage title (and became increasingly convinced it's possessed/hates me), I've been looking for a new car. Well, a new-to-me used car. Today, I find a woman selling her car about $2,000+ UNDER blue book value and go up pretty immediately to see her. I was the first person, I'd done my research, I told her I wanted it, she told me she wanted me to have it. Showed me maintenance records, insisted on a test drive, we get back like 2 minutes later (like I said-I did my research and I was buying it) and she has the bill of sale in hand to sign the car over to me when a guy walks up says "I want it, I want it now and I have cash in my car." She says "do you want to test drive?" "No, I want it and I want it now" "Maintenance records?" "No, I want it now." Now, let's take a guess what happens.

Anyone?

Yeah, she asked if I had the cash on me and when I said no, she said "well, that makes it easier", turns to him and says "it's yours."

Sometimes, it takes a while for me to realize that not everyone was raised as well as I was. When I give you my word, I give you my word and I'm not backing out without a DAMN good reason. And, I'm sorry, but "well I don't want to wait the half hour it'd take for you to get to your bank" is not even close. You told me it was mine, you had the papers in hand and you back out. UGH

But I promised to end on good news and so I will.

Maria and I officially have our apartment! Our applications were approved, our deposit goes down tomorrow, and we move in September 8, 2006. New address to follow, but it is Arlington, VA, conveniently located in the backyard of the army/navy country club...and Arlington National Cemetary (as Greg so happily pointed out). The front office lady-who has been very sweet to two young women who keep calling her to make sure everything is working out as it should-has told us it is one of the best apartments they have and may even have a view of the Washington Monument. But what we do know for sure is that it's in the mid-rise building and we have a top level (3rd floor), 2br/1ba apartment with access to the fitness center, the pool (in summer), laundry in the basement, and all utilities included. So I'm way thrilled, knowing that even if I don't have a car to get there, I do have a place to stay when I do!

So, updated summer schedule:
Mikey's 21st: July 22
Sullivan Reunion: July 28-30
Cross Country Drive to VA/MD: starts August 12 (give or take some wiggle room)
Arriving VA/MD: August 18
Move into Dorchester Apts.: September 8
And hopefully fitting in somewhere is stable, well-paying job. We shall see!!
