How is it already Wednesday? This week has flown by, maybe because there's actually been things happening instead of my usual. On Saturday my sister Margie and I got brave and actually went to a restaurant. (My other sister, Helen, has been brave for a while.) It was the first time I'd seen Helen since COVID shutdowns, and only the 3rd time I'd seen Margie since March. Margie & her husband and I only risked seeing each other for the first time in August, because they both have underlying conditions and we felt it just wasn't worth the risk. I used to see Margie and Dan once a week. It was really hard not seeing them for so long. We all decided to be brave because this is obviously going to last for at least another year and we have to get used to just doing all the precautions and being as safe as we can.
In other news, I now have a giant gaping hole in my ceiling in my bathroom! There's been a leak going on there for a looooooong time and finally it got bad enough that Amy and Garry had to do something about it. The roofer was in and out for a few days, and he has finally (he says) found and fixed the leak. Now it all needs to dry out before an inside guy can come in and replace some of the damaged wood and then replaster where the hole is. Meanwhile I am TERRIFIED about bugs getting into my part of the house. Trying to be brave there, too!
Today's prompt is: What was the first thing you contributed to a fandom?
I now that the first thing I wrote as an adult was either a Beauty and the Beast fanfic (the '80s show starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton) or a Robin of Sherwood fanfic (the '80s show starring Michael Praed and Ray Winstone.) But neither of those were ever shared online. I think the first thing I ever actually posted was fanfic for V: The Series. I don't recall if I contributed to someone else's webpage (this was pre-LJ, when everything was done on individual webpages and sometimes Yahoo groups.)
I did start my own webpage for V: The Series. I had my own fanfic and other people contributed to it, too. I even tracked down one of the women who used to run a print fanzine. She sent me copies of them and gave me permission to host the stories online. Some of those stories were goooooood! And my site was the only place to find them, which I was very proud of. The last time I looked at the site was many, many, many years ago -- I think I used the Wayback Machine -- and maaaan, is it ever AWFUL. I mean, a lot of the contributed fic is STELLAR (mine is definitely not, LOL) but the layout and the colours and these horrible cutouts of the actors heads, UGH UGH UGH. Someday I should see if it's still there and see about saving the other fic, though. Someday. :D
