Baking, or Things I Learned Today

Jul 28, 2006 03:00

Well. I can either curse, or I can look upon this day as a learning experience. Let's go with the latter.

Things I Learned Today

1. Do not bake anything from a mix. Such attempts will always go wrong in some fashion. ABORT THE CUPCAKES, ABORT!

2. While cookies made by rolling out the dough and cutting them into cool shapes sounds fun, in reality it is simply mucky and the dough sticks to the roller even when you use flour and it won't spread and then all the dough just goes in the garbage. So really, don't do that ever again.

3. Splenda sucks. Yes, you can use it in place of sugar, but it is a different consistency, thus nothing holds together the way it should. I have made my muffins 869857 times so I was able to improvise and they turned out okay, but the cookies were another story.

4. Listen to sister when she says it's too hot and fudge will not maintain its consistency.

5. Remove vegetable grater from sink before doing dishes, and you will not get a huge cut on your knuckle that hurts like a motherfucker. ("I'm sure I mentioned it hurts like a motherfucker")

6. ETA: There may also have been an incident with the knife scoring marks in the cake pan I borrowed from Jen. JEN, I WILL TOTALLY BUY YOU A NEW CAKE PAN. Also, I will call you in the afternoon, around 2pm, when I am up and showered. Or, probably not showered, but at least up. LT. DAN BAND IN 17.5 HOURS!!!

So. After waaaay too many hours of baking in 40 billion degree weather, I only ended up with 3 dozen muffins and 4 dozen cookies for the yard sale. This is not a lot, omg.

But I learned many lessons. :/
