Oh, Tennessee...

Gods, I swear that drive gets worse every time I make it. :-/

So, yes, I did in fact make it to Tennessee. It took about fourteen hours, which isn't the longest it's ever taken but very much wasn't the shortest. I hit traffic a couple of times, of the "is this an interstate or a parking lot?" variety, plus it took forever to stop and get food thanks to it being Father's Day and everyone eating out.

On the positive side, there was a guest waiting for me at my parents' house when I got there. You see, they apparently got home from the funeral home (where they were making arrangements) yesterday afternoon, only to find an unexpected guest in their house. A very cute, 3 or 4-month old guest.

They were both swearing that they weren't keeping him last night, but by this morning my dad had already called the vet to make an appointment. So... yeah. He's totally staying. Their 16-year-old cat Midnight isn't very happy about it right now, since she hasn't had to share the house with any other pets for over five years now, but she seems to be reluctantly getting used to him.

I've suggested that they call him Ser Pounce-a-Lot. Pounce for short, of course. As long as I don't specifically mention that it's a Dragon Age reference, they might go for it...

On the funeral front, visitation is going to be this afternoon/evening and the funeral tomorrow morning. I'll probably try to get to bed ridiculously early tomorrow night, so that I can get up at the crack of dawn (or earlier) to start driving back to Maryland on Wednesday. Hopefully it won't take quite as long on the way back?
