Okay, so it looks like I'm definitely driving. Flight-wise, I had the option of paying an arm-and-a-leg and not getting into Nashville until late in the evening (keeping in mind that my dad would then have to come pick me up, which would involve the two of us being trapped in a car together for an hour-and-a-half as we headed south), or I could just pay an arm (and not a leg) but it would involve flying to Atlanta/Charleston/Chicago/etc., sitting around for ages, and then flying onto Nashville.
Or I could pay about 1/3 of what it would cost to fly in order to keep my gas tank filled on a drive back to Tennessee.
Needless to say? That last option is the one that I went with. And, hey, at least the scenery is much prettier in the summer. Plus the majority of the drive will be during daylight hours, instead of in the dark, since for once I'll be making the drive at summer solstice rather than winter solstice.
I'm going to try to get to bed soon. When I get up in the morning, I'll need to wash a load of clothes, pack a suitcase, and generally try to get my apartment set up for an unexpected trip (cleaning the litter box, emptying the fridge of anything that will gain sentience if I leave it in there until Wednesday, taking out the trash, etc.) I told MJZ earlier in the week that I might have to head back to Tennessee for a funeral, and I shot her a text once I got the news, so taking care of things at work should require minimum effort on my part.
(Although I will need to check when I get back to find out how to submit my timesheet. I'm fairly certain that, for immediately family members, we get two bereavement days to attend a funeral, so if that's right then I should only have to give up one day of PTO instead of three. I'll have to double-check, though, to be sure that's right.)
The plan is that I'll do my best to be on my way by 9-10am at the latest. Possibly earlier, if I wake up early enough, but I'm setting my alarm for 8am. If my body decides it needs less sleep than that, then great, but I'd rather be well-rested if I'm going to be spending 12-13 hours in a car.
