If anyone cares for the outcome to my recent "how do I politely and correctly tell Z that I'm not seeing him again, and somehow absolve myself of bad feeling that I didn't warn him about the possibility in advance (not that I knew)?" dilemma:

This is an uber-quick post because I used my 1.5 hours of free time tonight to watch the Jean-Claude van Damme movie Sudden Death instead of doing anything remotely productive.
