This is an uber-quick post because I used my 1.5 hours of free time tonight to watch the Jean-Claude van Damme movie Sudden Death instead of doing anything remotely productive. ("I was just watching this action flick when suddenly a hockey match broke out!" <-- no really. Sadly, it was not a "good" JCVD flick with lots of pretty kicks and splits. In fact, he didn't do his trademark splits once. Did he stop doing this at some point? I'm disappointed. I'd ask for my money back, but it was on a channel I get "free" with my HBO. Besides, I laughed at the hockey game.)
Work progresses a tad boringly, which is just fine with me at the moment. I've had too much excitement in employment lately. Most exciting today: I had my first one-on-one with my boss, which pretty much sets up our other one-on-ones. I get the feeling I'm his protege . . . like, if we were Romans I'd be the right age for him to adopt if things continue. (Since we're not Romans, I just have a mini-crush on him.)
Our meeting degenerated when I ended up giving a 10 minute primer on the appropriate and fun uses of Twitter for business and pleasure. Maybe I should start giving 15 minute presentations weekly on "Interesting Social Media Happenings"?
So the guy who took it a bit too far on Saturday? I'm not seeing him again. After thinking it over ("Wait. Why do I feel at all responsible when I clearly said no? I got played! Men!"), I gave him some benefit of the doubt and sent a message that was all, "You totally crossed a line, but I still kind of like you and would go out again . . . but be aware that there was line crossing and also that you're on probation." His reply (twice!) was very much about how I was making too big a deal out of things ("no means no" shouldn't be difficult), how I should just trust him b/c he'll take care of things, etc. (On a first date, remember?) Then he went on in those ways that you do with serious partners, like asking me to support him at a function, wanting to introduce me to his friends, and being interested in doing something with meaningful talking on Valentine's Day.
Yeah, no. Besides, I've promised my friend Xuyen a singles' V-Day. Complete with using my Coldstone Creamery coupon.
Stranger in failed romance for last week, feral kitten guy and I managed to stand each other up on Thursday. There's a not very interesting story to this which amounts to T-mobile and Verizon not being texting friends on Thursday night. Both of us (I assume) were too annoyed at the other to actually call. (I certainly was. "I'm not calling him! That jerk is standing me up!")
Of course, the moment I realized what had happened (10 am on Friday), I texted and emailed (hey, texting had failed the night before) feral kitten guy. I called him later and offered to take him to the movies b/c I should have attempted to call (though, for that matter, so should he). He's still not responded to any of my Friday messages, so I don't expect to hear from him again.
Ah, well. I probably only liked him so much because he reminded me of Seth anyway.
I'm getting really sick of this whole "dating strangers" thing. All of my best (and worst!) relationships have stemmed from friendships that had already lasted a few months before someone said something to change their nature. Sure, waiting too long can be disastrous (e.g., Seth-saga 2002 as opposed to Seth-saga 2006), but that seemed to be a lot less iffy.
I'm giving OkCupid one last go (trying out some potential date-possibilities that are way outside my norm . . . like a vegan DJ), but then I think I'm just going to resign myself to the fact that I am both picky and an intelligent geek who has plenty of non-romantic friends. I can name multiple women whom I look up to that are older than I and don't have much in the way of love lives, for one reason or another. I can do that too.
OMG! It snowed again! Yesterday, I took the bus in order to avoid the ice on the local roads. This morning, though, things looked fine. So I drove in. And then I watched the snow come pouring (dumping? falling in harsh clumps?) down through the conference room windows all afternoon. (Not through my window because it's still STAINED GLASS!)
Thankfully, I made it home on roads that were wet, but not snowy. I did, however, get the chance to use the ice scraper which I bought at Target this weekend.
Also this weekend, I washed my car. That was a waste.
Hahaha!
