(no subject)

Allie dropped in for the weekend and we saw a ton of cool stuff. At the Kennedy Center we saw ASIMO the walking robot as part of the Japan! Culture and Hyperculture event. That little dude is so cool. Unfortunately, it also makes me think that Skynet may be around sooner than we think. Funny aside about the Japan thing: I think even the people working this exhibit, which was ostensibly to educate about Japan, had a sort of bemused "Gosh, these Japanese are kinda weird" aesthetic going on. It was pretty funny at the time. We did some other touristy stuff too. Saturday we checked out the National Portrait Gallery and saw the Presidents, the hip-hop exhibit, and Stephen Colbert. We followed that up by seeing the original Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights at the National Archives (Constitution was in the shop or as someone else said "Bush was busy trampling on it"). It was sad how faded they were (you could barely read them), but it was cool to see history.

I was glad Allie came. Not only did I get to see her and hang out, but it meant I also got some good sleeping in because I kicked the roommate out of the room. No snoring. Beautiful.

Speaking of the roommate, his birthday is tomorrow. He hasn't taken well to the idea. He got upset when he received three birthday cards from his parents (His response: Who sends three birthday cards). He laments that it's been a decade since he was a teenager (or four years if you would just look at it sensibly. Who liked being 13 anyway?) He also says he sees no reason to celebrate him being alive for 23 years. It's this kind of negative attitude that makes it such a pleasure to disagree with him. You don't think 23 is important? I'll say "Got a big year coming up." Et cetera. Et cetera.

What else? Um...I made phone calls for Barack Obama two weekends ago. That was pretty cool. I may have to watch some toddlers for a half hour tomorrow. That'll be weird. Other than that...Allie got into grad school at Boston College, which is awesome for her. That's about it, I guess. I'll think about it.
