We're not the platonic sort, Jane.

My first fanmix! I'm currently working through an Austen/Brontë addiction and wanted to do something for my favourite portrayal of Jane Eyre/Edward Rochester! BBC's 2006 miniseries had a gorgeous score, but unfortunately no soundtrack was ever released ( Read more... )

Oh, this is utter perfection! This is my favorite adaptation of Jane Eyre, which sadly there doesn't seem to be enough fans for it. (Most gravitate to the 2011 film :/)
Finding this is a treasure! Toby was just flawless, and brought me to tears several times.

Downloading happily!

I think its only because the 2011 version is newer and has a currently popular actor in one of his rarer romantic roles. There's just a huge similarity of fassbender's look to toby's IMO to be coincidence. Its the casting and performance of Jane though that finally drew the line for me. Ruth did the 'I am your equal' scene with so much more feeling and passion, while i just did not connect at all with the newer jane (who was not very convincing at being plain nor passionate- just a model without makeup on). Also, as pretty as fassbender is, toby pulled off the period look (and sideburns) much better! Lol, so thank you for your nice comment, allowing me to fangirl a bit, and i hope you enjoy the mix!

Oh I agree. Ruth was superb as Jane. I've seen just about every Jand Eyre adaptation there is, and she was the only one for me I connected with. The passion in her portrayal was just flawless. The newer Jane, Mia something, was just bland. She's not a very good actress in the first place, and her casting was just jarring. She didn't capture the essence of Jane at all. But frankly, I found the 2011 film bland overall, amongst other things. Haha, Toby looked dashing, sideburns and all!

It's perfectly fine! I tend to fangirl over Jane Eyre too much anyway. Thanks for letting me fangirl back, haha.

Oh, me too! I was hesitant to say bland in case I was just being really bias, but I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thought so! And clearly, whomever was in charge of makeup and styling had no idea how to give a "proper head of pompous curls" to Fassbender like they did with Stephens and still have him radiate dashing and sexy.

I hope you don't mind, but I took a quick look at your LJ. I was wondering if maybe 1) you could recommend me another period piece romance since I am still feeding an obsession for them (I just finished reading P&P for the third time) and 2) may I friend you? I have lately been rediscovering LJ and what kind of things I may be interested in again.

Jane Eyre! Oh, I loved this adaptation so much. I have, let me see, five different DVDs (Dalton/Clarke, Hinds/Morton, Hurt/Gainsbourg, Fassbender/Wasikowska and then this one), and this is by far and away my favourite. This mix looks great, thank you!

When I read Jane Eyre, the Rochester I imagine seeing (and hearing the dialogue from) is always going to be Toby Stephens. :)

And thank you, I hope you enjoy it!
