For serious, kids

Pretty, yes?

That smoke I've been talking about finally hit us overnight, and damn but it's nasty. They didn't cancel school (ie, work) today, but god... they should have.

We ended up on "Inclement Weather" schedule instead, which is the same as Rainy Day schedule, just minus the rain (and breathable air). This kept all of the staff and students inside, for our own health and safety, which would have worked out a lot better if we hadn't had to go outside to get ourselves (and the kids) to and from the cafeteria/office/other classes.

It's not a huge campus, but halfway through the day someone gave me a face mask (I know they're mostly useless, but it made me feel better to have one) and volunteered to take a few of my classes for me, so I guess I looked about as well as I felt. Because really, it is DISGUSTING out there.

All the mountains have been blotted out by a horrible murky gray and you can see and smell the smoke as it hangs in the air. The light shining through the windows (when it WAS shining) was deep red, and now that the sun has set everything is an ugly cloudy brownish color. I just closed my shades so I wouldn't have to look at it anymore.

My throat hurts, my head is starting to ache (again), I've developed a cough, and my eyes sting. It feels like some sort of horrible dry film has coated the back of my throat and the roof of my mouth.

The only good news today? They DID cancel school (ie, work) tomorrow. Every district in the valley has done the same. Word is that some of them might even cancel school on Monday as well, which would be awesome. I suppose it depends on the wind. But I won't get my hopes up; I'm happy enough about tomorrow.

Every morning this week I've dragged myself into a sitting position and winced and hacked and lurched about, all the time telling myself that I should just call in sick (which I am). Now I don't actually have to.

I DO, however, feel like I need another shower. And possibly stronger Ibuprofen.

PS: torra, I think I might catch that moon pic for you tonight. Conditions are certainly ripe for it.
