“The fist will not yield. IT WILL NOT…yield”

I  started writing this whole post about how HIMYM was not living up to the first episode of the season in awesomeness, how only the Barney and Robin stuff was great and how everything else was boring me….

...and then I got to the NY/NJ debate (“But what city is he singing about? It’s not ‘Secaucus, Secaucus’.”) followed by Robin’s amazing BMX jump over 5th Avenue, Marshall’s 'I'm too big for New York!' diatribe, Ted reading to Stella’s daughter…it was all great! It may have started slow, but it really came together at the end.
So, screw my original concept because though the last couple of weeks have been sub-par, this week’s episode was nothing short of dee - wait for it! - lightful. Of course, the best stuff was still hands down the Robin stuff (her bathroom victory dance!!!) and the Barney stuff (“They’re awesome manly pain tears. They’re not emotional.”). Plus the moment where he told her to bet on herself? So sweet and sincere and just ... honestly great.
And then they had to go and stab Barney - hence also us - through the heart with the “I’m moving to Japan” announcement.  NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I mean, whatever will Barney do without his Sherbatsky?

I shudder to think.  And BTW, I thought NPH was particularly hilarious tonight, but he also did a lovely job with his two serious Robin moments.  That face he made at the end of the episode was priceless and SO expressive.  He's just too wonderful for his own good!

In other news, I saw "Nights in Rodanthe" tonight. I know a lot of folks hate Nicholas Sparks but I'm a big old softy, romantic at heart so (for the most part) I love "The Notebook" and "A Walk to Remember."  HOWEVER....

it really brought home one very important thing to me -- I need to familiarize himself with one very important concept he doesn't ever seem to have met, much less contemplated.  So, here's my note to Nick:

Nick, you get romance, you get intimacy, you get all that gushy stuff.  But there's one thing you need to learn RIGHT NOW.  It's a little thing I like to call "....and they lived happily ever after." Know it, love it, live it.  Stop ending every fucking love story with some kind of terrible tragedy that is supposed to teach us to love without fear and live each day like it's your last (because in his world it probably will be) or some other trite crap like that.  I know the Lee Anne Womack song, OK? I get it.  But I deal with enough of that shit in my crappy real life and when I read a book or watch a movie, I want the fucking happy ending I'm not myself getting. Is that really so hard to do?  If you aren't clear on what I'm speaking of, go back and gorge yourself on some classic Disney flicks and figure that shit out -- because so help me god, if you give the world one more unnecessarily unhappy ending, I'm gonna have to choke a bitch.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program.
