On top of this

I’m back on top of this thing now, I think.

Thursday, the last of Thursdays this September, was my mom’s birthday. My grandma’s weirdness shone bright when she said the word “kinky.” We had key lime pie for dessert.

Friday, I had a dentist appointment in which my teeth passed the test. My grandma pulled one more rabbit out of her hat with the question, “Am I ‘bi’, Christopher?” She didn’t know the definition, I guess. We had Applebee’s, which I hadn’t had in a long time. Gaustad, Bagley, and Josh showed up later to hang out and play games, making it two Chris’ and two Josh’s. I thought it was pretty cool.

Josh bailed for sleepiness or something, so we struggled to have a good time without him. It was rough, Josh. Amends were made that night with an old friend.

Saturday, with the tarp that used to cover my window now laying on the ground, was a horrible time for sleep. I had the foresight Devendra Banhart’s, Niño Rojo with intentions of entertaining myself on my way downtown. I didn’t have the foresight to bring my headphones.

Of the four that said they’d be at the school for preparing screens, two followed through- Rachel and me. I had my first experience in the screen printing process. Most of this time was spent screwing up, but it’s okay because I’ve recently discovered that’s a major part of my creative process, screwing things up.

Zach ended up pulling his lazy bum out of his house to hang out for a bit. We checked out the location of the new offsite classrooms that didn’t actually look too terrible. After that, it was back to his place for us to hang out. It reeked of fish. I left, but not immediately.

Josh and I had food at the ‘B in Ridgedale. I thought it was delicious, but Josh thought it was a waste of money. Josh didn’t eat much of his food. We came back to my house to watch Evil Aliens, and I felt like throw up about two times. I didn’t. Also showing that night, was the Home Movies episode “The Wizard’s Baker,” which I adore. Then again, I adore every episode of Home Movies.

Sunday was very short. My family left me for the Renaissance Festival and woke me up to ask me how they got lost. Gaustad ended up joining me for lunch at Arby’s. It wasn’t a bell-ringing experience. We hung out until later.

Monday, it’s back to school. I had a feeling things would be a lot different this quarter, and thus far (yes, one day) it’s been pretty different. Who knows, though.

I had another crummy, tarp-less night of sleep. Headphones were not forgotten this morning. Art & Design Concepts, the class where I had no idea what it was about, is looking to be pretty fantastic. My Academic Director Erika, who hasn’t taught since before I got to Ai, is my teacher. I’m excited, because I’m pretty sure she’ll be a kick ass teacher, but I’m worried I’m going to get my ass too kicked. I really like the format of the class so far, though. Oh, and naked jumping jacks are referenced in our book as a solution to creative blocks. It gets more detailed, but I wont.

I found my Summer Teen Workshop buddy, Jess, in the skyway (much before her text arrived on my phone, lazy Verizon towers). We ended up hanging out a bit before I showed her to her offsite classroom. Actually entering the new area, the rooms are really deep and feel like they’re going to be awkward when I have English II in one of the rooms tomorrow. She’s got a mighty fine 15″ MacBook Pro that I’m pretty jealous of.

I already knew my next class, Corporate Identity wasn’t going to really meet today. We were going to take attendance and be done. Armato came in and did that along with giving us a really vague and outdated syllabus. He also gave us about a twenty minute speech on the Ai Disability Policy, mentioning a the disorder of reading slow. I asked him if doctors could really diagnose us with that, and I think he said no.

Tommy and I went to Andreas after all that and had some good food at a busy time of day. We chowed down and went to the basement to see if Tommy’s experience of seeing the student lounge full of new kids sitting at separate tables not talking to each other was true. It wasn’t, instead some of the animators were watching some kind of muppet porn or something. The door to the lounge might have as well been a revolving one, with the steps I ended up taking.

Tommy, Josh and I ended up sitting at a table discussing glorious late night cartoons. Jess came down and I helped her and some more new folks find Utrecht. They were blown away by the price discrepancies between the Ai Bookstore and Utretcht. It was pretty ridiculous.

After hanging out a bit more with Jess, and later, Zach, I went home, probably dying of thirst. I’m starting to think I have some kind of ADD. I also think I could spin it and call it “multi-tasking-itis.”

You can now see what I’ve been listening to down below. It’s probably in your best interest to listen to the same stuff.
