Caught up

OKAY.

So there’s no possible way for me to accurately recall the past months(?) or so. I’ve got notes randomly scrawled across a few Moleskine’s- most of which I cannot read due to pencil smearing and my already terrible handwriting, and some text files in which I shorthanded and abbreviated things I must have thought I’d remember but do not. Here goes nothing.

From what I think is my first set of notes, is back when I interviewed for Caribou. I never heard from those folks. I got a haircut that day, which is funny because I’m due for one now.

I went to see crappy Accepted with some friends from school, and there we finally met Zach’s new girlfriend. With those two hanging out or whatever without us, we went back to Sarah and Erin’s apartment to watch a movie. They popped in Italian Job, but I fell asleep and missed most of the movie (for the second time ever).

That was one day. A Saturday, actually. I really wish I would have dated these notes, as I’ve got no idea what order these went in, or what I’m missing. I’ve located the Moleskine’s the majority of my notes are on. Bad news: I alternated from writing in the front and back because I separated it for classes. There’s no real chronology here. Also, movies I’ve recently seen and how I liked them.

Movies

Being There:
For Critical Thinking, we watched an old movie starring Peter Sellers about a guy who has been living under an essential rock and is released into the world with no real-world knowledge. While I couldn’t really enjoy Sellers’ deadpan, I thought it was a pretty swell movie. I felt it was like, a lot of uncomplicated solutions to complicated problems. Good stuff.

Dead and Breakfast:
Josh had been raving about it, and I had a newfound interest in zombie movies, so this was an obvious choice. It ended up being a lot funnier than I had expected. There’s a band that narrates once in a while, and zombies do the Thriller music video dance. What more can I say?

28 Days Later:
Another movie Josh recommended, but I guess only dumb people think it’s about zombies. It’s actually about people infected with a virus! This was actually really good, which is great, because I thought it’d be awful. Very cool, post-apocalyptic feeling.

Beerfest:
Chase brought me to Beerfest in it’s opening weekend, and I really didn’t know what to expect. The Broken Lizard group’s generally good in my book, but this had some bits that were just amazingly hilarious. The guy who played Farva in Super Troopers has a twist at some point that caused me to laugh a little obnoxiously loud and long.

Kinky Boots:
Not at all what I expected. Although, I went in hoping it’d be all about Nick Frost’s character, but alas, it wasn’t. Another thing it wasn’t, was terrible. Like Simon Pegg in MI:3 for me, the Spaced alumni’s cameos just do it for me. Their parts may be small, but they’re good enough for me.

Im Juli:
The third in the recent string of Josh-recommended movies, I was real pleased. It’s an adventure. I really don’t know what to say about it, though.

The Edukators:
First to fill in the idle hours of my late nights this break, The Edukators was pretty fantastic. Daniel Brühl, who I thought was great in Goodbye, Lenin! was great again. Very inspiring, albeit not to the movie’s extent of revolution- more so personal revolution. The ending had me tripped up at first, but I’ve had time to think about it and it makes sense now. Good stuff.

The Devil and Daniel Johnston:
Insane. Amazing. Daniel Johnston is a guy with quite an interesting past. He writes some of the most raw and honest lyrics I’ve heard. While I can’t listen to his music in too great intervals, the singer-songwriter blows me away. On top of that, his art! I’ve seen that Picasso quote, about how all children are born artists, and the problem is how to remain an artist when they grow up. Daniel Johnston’s eccentricities are an amazing example of this. Wow.

And that’s it. I’m all caught up. And it’s not even 3!
