Comments/Crits: go for it
Akaya didn’t know why he did this. He knew, if Sanada found out that it had been him that would mean problems, but still.... he did want to give the older something for Valentin’s day. He felt so stupid for even doing everything himself. Yeah he really had done the chocolate himself. Icchan had asked him who’d get it and annoyed him more than necessary but Akaya had kept silent and finished the little present for his Buchou.
Now came the difficult part. Sneaking into his senpai’s room and hoping that he wouldn’t catch him. Akaya definitely didn’t want to have to explain why he gave his Buchou chocolate on Valentin’s day. Looking left and right, the boy slipped into the new room his senpai has gotten. It was a nice room that fitted his senpai. There was nothing unnecessary in there. Gently with a little smile Akaya placed the little box on the desk where the other would probably find it later that day.
Valentines was the one day more than any other that Sanada hated. He dreaded that day like a man sure to contact a deadly plague. He knew that that day would entail. he was waiting. He was waiting for the unwanted attention and the unnecessary gifts of sweets. From the girls college down the way. From the boys at this school. And the inevitable mountain of presents from one former Prince. Kime wouldn’t let a Valentine’s Day go by without doing something to annoy and piss off Sanada. Last year it had been 100 roses, a gigantic box of chocolates laced with some sort of aphrodisiac, a perfume that probably cost more than a years tuition, and a demand that he go to dinner. He was glad that prince had graduated. He didn’t know if he could sit though another “romantic dinner”, even if there was steak.
As it was, he already had an unwanted armful of chocolates and a few cards he didn’t know what to do with. He had accepted them only to make the givers finally shut up. He couldn’t want to get rid of them. Perhaps he would stay in his room for the rest of the day. Maybe he would go to the Prince’s dorms and collect his dog, so that Shiro could move in with him. That sounded like a good way to spend the holiday...with his dog.
It wasn’t to be though. He approached his room and immediately noticed something was off. His door...was ajar. Someone was in his room. The territorial snarl came to his lips unbidden. If it was Kime...If it was that man... Completely on guard, Sanada approached the room and threw the door open, the snarl still in his voice. “What the HELL are you doing in MY room?” He demanded before he could even see who it was standing there.
Akaya had just placed the box on the desk after looking through the room a bit. He just had been curious what kind of books the other read and stuff. Sanada was so different from him. Always collected and so.... Akaya didn’t even know how to name it. Sanada was a perfect samurai. And him? He probably could be good in school if he just had the right person behind him poking him all the time. But he rather liked to fool around and play games than read a book or learn.
When the door was pushed open and the older entered jelling at him, Akaya wished he just had put the box on the desk and had went away again instead of looking around. So he stood there in front of the desk, staring at the older man with big scared eyes. “I... I’m sorry...I didn’t meant to....”
Dark, angry eyes locked on to the offending body who had invaded his personal space. He didn’t know if he should have been relieved or not. It was not the one he had feared it to be. But it didn’t excuse the fact that his little vanguard was where he wasn’t supposed to be. Yet at the same time, Sanada was getting rather used to Akaya just sort of letting himself in. It was half the reason why he had finally requested his own room. So that he didn’t have suspicious curious roommates asking about things they had no business asking about. Having room for his dog was just a really good practical excuse for it. Though he was going to have to introduce those two...lest Shiro decide that Akaya was an invader and attack without predigest.
He loomed in the doorway, annoyance clear. What was Akaya doing here? Was he in trouble? No. He didn’t look hurt or injured and he hadn’t heard of any curly haired demon attacks. Did he need help with his studies? No....exams had just been finished. It was the start of a new quarter. Then what....why? Storming inside, he took a pause to drop his armload of very pick Valentines into the garbage. He said nothing. Instead, he turned back around and very curtly slammed the door, giving Akaya one less escape route. Though him or through the window. He was going to get to the bottom of this.
When he turned back around, his temper had lessened some. But not much. This day just made him grumpy. “Kirihara-kun...” He started sharply. “Is there something you need?”
Akaya winced when Sanada closed the door. He was trapped and his senpai didn’t look very pleased. He rather looked as if he was annoyed, probably by all the presents he had just thrown away. The boy’s eyes wandered to his own little present for a split second. How could he have thought that Sanada would like it... He would throw it away just like the others. He was such an idiot.
“I......”, he shook his head, “It’s nothing....”, he murmured, even if his senpai would get angry at him. It was better than letting him know. Akaya slowly lowered his head. He didn’t want the other to see.
The frown deepened, if that was even possible. If it was nothing...then why was Akaya here, invading his space? Surely...there was a problem and Akaya needed him. He didn’t want to admit that the idea even appealed to him that it really was nothing. That the younger man and just...wanted to see him. He played with that thought for a moment and decided he did like it. He liked the idea of the younger man coming to visit him just because he wanted the company. even if the company at the moment was volatile and even more short winded than usual. “Ah.” So, it was nothing was it? He was...okay with that.
He started his intimidating approach. He didn’t stop until he was right in front of the other. His hand went out and he grabbed Akaya’s chin to force it back towards him. “Look at me.” He demanded. “You have to be more careful about coming in here. Not without me, all right. Shiro is going to come live with me and he’s...very protective of me and my things.” He wouldn’t risk it. He wouldn’t risk losing either Akaya or his dog simply because the younger man wanted to visit him.
When Sanada had approached him, Akaya had stepped back and slightly to the side so he was leaning against the desk now, hiding his present behind him. When Sanada forced his head back up, he just couldn’t fight a blush because it did remind him of a certain dream he had a few weeks ago. But then he frowned and shook his head to get it our of Sanada’s grip and looked aside. “I know. It won’t happen again. I won’t come here anymore.”
Akaya freed himself from his grip and Sanada let his hand drop. He sighed just slightly, a sound far uncommon for the large man. He wanted to tell Akaya that it wasn’t his fault. That it was just this day. This day he hated so much. But he didn’t like excuses, no matter how valid they might be. So instead, Sanada internalized the thought. Instead, he took notice of the fact that the younger man seemed intent on hiding something on his desk. He would have to take a look, but that meant moving the other.
A simple task really. Large hands around that slender waste and lift. Akaya needed to eat more. And then put him back down to the side to see what he was hiding. Just that little. it didn’t matter if his hands remained where he placed him for a few moments too long starting and finishing his little shifting maneuver. Even as his hands left, he was speaking. “You can come here. You are allowed. Just not without me. Until Shiro is used to you.” He was about to say more when he noticed the gift of his desk. Silence descended yet again.
“Wah!” Akaya didn’t have seen that coming and so was surprised when Sanada just lifted him up and moved him. “Sanada-senpai what...” But then he noticed the older’s look. He had found out. “Wah! Don’t look!”, the boy yelled and once again tried to hide the box, blushing furiously. God that was so embarrassing.
He was looking all right. Staring at the offending box like it was some strange object that had somehow managed to get into his sacred little world. It wasn’t pink. He had to give it that much. But what was it? “Kirihara-kun...” He reached out for the box. “What is this?”
Damn... now he did it... Sanada-senpai didn’t like Valentin’s day and now he had found out that the present was from him.... damn. “That....it’s.... it’s nothing... really. Just... uhm...” Damn what should he say?
Nothing was it? Akaya seemed to like that word a lot around him. There was only one way to find out. He didn’t think it could be that. So, he just picked the box up and held it up to his ear. No ticking. It wasn’t a bomb. So that settled that at least. Which meant it was something else. With an air of finality, he pulled the little ribbon off the box and opened it up.
Chocolate... He tired to keep his face blank. Akaya...had given him chocolate. It didn’t look like the store bought stuff either. It also didn’t look as skilled as those chocolates the girls gave him, which is why he was sure it was Akaya’s candy, and not a box of sweets entrusted to him to make sure they got to Sanada. He took a glanced down towards Akaya’s hands to see if there was other evidence. Burn marks...cuts... He couldn’t just blame the chocolate on Akaya because he was there defending the box with his life and trying to explain it away. “Hn.”
Actually Akaya was pretty proud of his chocolate. It had become pretty good even though it was his first time doing them. But now he needed some excuse. He couldn’t tell Sanada why he had made them. He couldn’t tell him the real reason. “It’s..... uh... an little thank you”, he murmured sheepish, “For everything you did for me. The training and stuff. And that you actually believe in me....”, he said. It wasn’t even an entire lie. He was thankful for the training and the trust. “If I had known you dislike the chocolate so much I would have gotten you something different....I’m sorry.”
So it wasn’t a Valentine’s Day gift. He didn’t know whether to be disappointed or relieved. “Ah.” He answered the explanation and looked at the chocolates again and then glanced at Akaya and then at the garbage can overflowing with the ones he had thrown away. He then looked back at Akaya. The corner of his lip curled upwards in an almost smile and he pulled the sweet out of it’s box. “One...shouldn’t be too much.” He accepted it and took a bite. He didn’t like sweets at all...but this wasn’t...so bad.
Akaya really expected Sanada to just throw it away but.... he didn’t. He actually tried his chocolate. Akaya just couldn’t fight a big smile when he saw that. Even if the other thought that it was just a thank you, it still meant a lot to the boy. “Arigatou”, he murmured relieved.
He made it though the half he had broken off and then carefully put the lid back on the box and re-slid the ribbon back in place to secure the rest for later consumption. with care, he placed the box back on his desk, as if it belonged there and not in the trash with the rest of the junk he had been given. He gave Akaya another nod and another almost smile. “Akaya...” He started and then didn’t know what to say. It was good. Thanks for the chocolate. You didn’t have to. I like being around you...helping you...you...Dangerous thoughts. Far too dangerous.
He forged on. “Would you like to come with me when I go and collect my roommate?”
Akaya had looked up when Sanada said his name. What did he want to say? Akaya was already so happy that Sanada not just accepted the chocolate but actually tried it so what could it be that Sanada wanted to tell him?
“Your roommate?..... You mean your dog?”, he asked slowly, “Is it really okay? I don’t want to intrude or anything....”
“I wouldn’t ask.” He answered, “if it wasn’t okay with me. You need to meet him anyway.” Especially seeing as how Akaya ended up in his room so often. It would save a lot of heart ache in the future. Plus, he wanted to make sure that his best friend in the entire world got along with...with...whatever Akaya was to him. He had stopped that thought process dead. “I was going to get him before I found you here, anyway.” Nothing like a large dog to scare away potential Valentine’s Day annoyances. He just hoped Akaya could stay calm around the throng of those who still hadn’t forced their chocolates on him...and there was still Kime. Who hadn’t made his presence known. But if he wasn’t, Sanada was sure he’d be able to control him and keep the damages at a minimum.
Akaya nodded slightly. “Well... then it’s okay I guess”, he murmured. He was curious after all, what Sanada’s dog would be like. He was curious if it was the same as Sanada. “And... I’m sorry that I just have intruded... it will really not happen again... I promise”, Akaya sighed.
Sanada reached out again and this time, he lightly ruffled through wild hair, making it more so. “It’s fine.” He paused and then leaned down a little so he could look Akaya in the eye and then stated rather briskly. “It’s not your fault. I just don’t like Valentine’s Day. Everything about it annoys me.” He would have gone off on anyone. “So hold your head up. You didn’t do anything wrong.” At least not this time, even if he did wonder where he had gotten a key. He hadn’t thought he would have forgotten to lock it...or maybe he had. He had been in a rush that morning trying to get out and to his classes before the craziness started.
Akaya winced slightly when the other ruffled his hair. Somehow he really liked that feeling and wished that Sanada would do it more often. “Hai.... I will remember...for next year”, he murmured with a slight smile. He would be prepared next year.....and make sure that he got something better for the older boy than just chocolate.
He nodded and turned away to grab his coat and his hat. Pulling both on, he nodded towards the door. “If we run...we might be able to keep from the annoyances.” And if not, Sanada was more than happy to take the gifts and toss them as well. He wouldn’t be giving any White Day gifts to any of them, anyway....though...Akaya... But it hadn’t been Valentine’s Choco...it didn’t matter, Sanada would give him something anyway. He had a month to plan. But for now, he had to get his own white thing. He just hoped the German Shepard would like the smaller man.
“Ah..... hai”, Akaya nodded. He still wore his jacket because he hadn’t intended to stay there so long. But.... running? He knew what Sanada understood by running and he also knew that it would probably beat him again. But well.... it was Sanada.....
Sanada opened the door and reached behind him to grab Akaya’s hand. “Go!” He held on securely to make sure that they didn’t get separated, even if the other might slow him down a little.
“Eh?” Akaya looked at the hand around him surprised and felt the warmth return to his cheeks. Dammit. Get a grip on yourself Akaya or he will notice it! But still Akaya couldn’t fight down the thought, that it felt good.
The taller man kept a demanding pace. He never slowed. Never faltered. Dodging when he noticed those with pink that might be for him. But as he rounded a corner, he stopped dead and turned right back around, grabbing Akaya and slamming him hard against the wall, quickly joining him, pressed hard against him, breath rushing hotly against his ear, heart pounding. “Don’t....move.” He hissed. “Don’t make a sound. Just endure it for a moment.” In the dark little corridor between the buildings he was sure the former prince wouldn’t spot him. He just had to be still and remain right where he was until Kime passed by, towards the room he had just came from.
Akaya just tried to keep in pace with his Senpai wondering what all the boys and girls thought who saw them running past them holding hands like this.Somehow it made him feel special. But then suddenly Sanada turned around and pulled him into the small corridor again. God he was so close. The breathed whisper in his ear made him shiver hard and he just could stop a deep pant by biting down on his lower lip hard. Sanada was so close, he could feel the other against him. He wished the other would do something.... back off... or kiss him already but neither one happened. What had happened anyway that Sanada pressed him against a wall like this? Akaya didn’t know but he knew that, if the older remained like this longer, there would be a big problem for Akaya that he wouldn’t be able to explain so easy.
He stayed frozen and mentally counted. He noticed how well Akaya fit against him. He felt really warm. They were so close. He could feel the other breathing. He was sure if he closed his eyes, he could hear the other’s heart beat. He wasn’t listening for that. He was listening for the sound of footsteps. Waiting for them to pass him by. He woudn’t move until they were gone. Until he was sure that Kime had passed him by and wasn’t turning back around to check the intimate shadows in the little corridor. For all Kime needed to know, it was just two random lovers sneaking a moment on the most romantic day of the year.
His body remained stiff and he finally opened his eyes and looked down at the man he had pinned to the wall. It was safe now, yet he waited. Just a little longer. Just...one more moment, enjoying this closeness. He let a thought travel from his head to his loins. It was just how nice it would be to steal a kiss. It took every fraction of self-control to push against the wall and push away from Akaya. He tugged his hat down and murmured. “Sorry about that...”
When the other pushed back again Akaya was both relieved and disappointed. Relieved that the other didn’t have noticed the effect he had on the younger’s body and disappointed that nothing more had happened. But still Akaya was bright red and just slid down on the wall panting heavily. “What..... what was wrong?”, he asked breathlessly trying to hide a certain..... problem he got thanks to the older.
He stared at the retreating back of the one he had hidden from. If looks could kill, the owner of that back would have died a million times over. “I have...issues...” That was putting it lightly. “With one of the former princes.” The rumors around about that were very true. There was another pause and he looked at Akaya again and he reached down to offer his hand. “I’m staying with you for a while.” And Akaya’s roommate be damned. Sanada wasn’t going back to his room until he was positive Kime was gone.
Well Akaya had heard something about Sanada and one of the former princes but he hadn’t thought that it would lead to him pinning the younger against a wall and stuff.
“You are what?!”, Akaya asked disbelieving. If Sanada would stay with them... nonono that wasn’t good. That wasn’t good at all.
“Ah.” He answered and took Akaya’s hand to haul him up. “So you better scoot over.” Which meant Sanada would be staying in Akaya’s bed as well. At least until he was sure there was nothing unpleasant hiding in his room waiting for him. He then started towards the prince’s dorm again, hand wrapped around Akaya’s.
“Scoo.....scoot over?”, Akaya asked stunned. That was so...... dangerous. He just couldn’t sleep next to the other again..... not after the dream he had the last time he had slept next to him. Back then it had been nice but.... now it was different, it was dangerous. If Sanada was sleeping in his bed, Akaya just had no other chance as sleeping on the ground.
He wouldn’t let him. The ground was no place for Akaya. He would have to just keep telling him that until he believed it. And it would only be for a night or two...he would return to check with his dog. He dog will tell him if Kime will still there or not. “Ah.” He nodded and continued on. Though he wouldn’t admit it, it would be nice...to sleep with Akaya in his arms again.
It would be nice but Akaya didn’t want the other find out about his feelings, especially not with Icchan in the same room. Though.... Sanada must really dread that person that he actually wanted to sleep in his room for a night or two.
He more than dreaded the person. He would rather kill himself than be in the same room alone with the former prince. He would much rather be with Akaya. He liked Akaya. …. His hand slipped away from the smaller one. The realization was....world shaking. And even more was that he couldn’t deny it. He couldn’t deny the fact that he did like the smaller man. But what that meant was still something he didn’t know quite yet. He needed to figure out just what that meant. But for now, he needed to get his dog and introduce Akaya to him.
Akaya was a bit surprised when Sanada let go of his hand but then just smiled sheepishly. “Well... I just hope Icchan won’t mind you saying over....”, he murmured, not knowing what else to say...
If the roommate minded, then Sanada would just have to sleep in his kendo dojo. The mats weren’t comfortable and his back would hurt but it was better than getting jumped by someone he detested. The dorms loomed before him and he let himself into the gate to be pounced by a very large white dog. Once more, Akaya saw something few had a chance to see. Sanada Genichirou....laughing. Smiling. Being...happy.
At first Akaya had been startled when the dog jumped Sanada but then... when he saw Sanada being so happy to see his dog again... Akaya’s heart just skipped a beat just to start even faster. It was..... something he never had thought could happen and seeing Sanada like this made him love the other even more. He seemed so innocent. Akaya, who didn’t wanted to intrude this moment, stayed aside and just watched the two with a loving smile.
After a long moment of time with his pet, the man stood again. He pulled his hat down as far as it could go. He didn’t want Akaya to see his embarrassed look. He didn’t let others see him like that often. it meant he trusted the other. His loyal beast immediately took it’s place at his side, pure white and as intimidating as his owner. “Akaya.” He started, awkwardly. “Come and say hi to him. Shiro...this is Akaya. He’s...an important person to me.” He looked to the younger. “Just hold your hand out and let him sniff you. No sudden moves.”
And another time his heard jumped. He was an important person to Sanada? Really? Just knowing that made him really happy. So he slowly got closer to the pure white dog next to Sanada. Akaya crouched down and held out his hand with a little smile. “Hello Shiro”, He chuckled, “It is nice to meet you.”
The dog growled at first. But as the younger man approached and Sanada kept his hand on the soft fur to keep the dog calm. To let him know that this was a friend. After a moment of sniffing there was a bark and then Shiro was licking the hand. Sanada breathed a sigh of relief. Akaya wouldn’t be attacked by his friend if the boy decided to invade at all hours of the night. “He likes you.” Just like me.
Akaya chuckled slightly as Shiro started to lick his hand. It tickled. Smiling he looked up at the older boy. “That’s good I guess.” And then he looked back at the dog and carefully lifted a hand to ruffle the soft fur. Perhaps Shiro felt what Akaya felt for his master. The boy didn’t know but he was glad that the dog liked him.
He nodded. It was very good. He stood arms cross and watched the smaller man get more comfortable with his large dog. It was cute. Having the two people he loved most in the world right there getting along. Because yes, Sanada thought of his dog as a person. He nodded back towards the way they came. “Let’s go.” Once more time, he held out his hand.
Akaya petted the dog a bit more, enjoying the feeling of his soft fur. He wished he could curl up against Shiro and cuddle with him. But he was somehow sure that the dog wouldn’t like it very much. “Ah...”, the boy nodded and took the older’s hand standing up again.
Actually, Shiro liked being cuddled against. Because Sanada did it often. He had used his dog as a pillow a few times when he had been feeling decidedly depressed. He kept the hand in his and started towards Akaya’s dorm. His dog didn’t need a leash. Shiro was so well trained, he would stay right at Sanada’s side until the order to attack was given.
Walking like this with his hand still in Sanada’s made him blush slightly. Though he was surprised how well mannered Shiro was, to stay at Sanada’s side like this. If he had known that Shiro liked to cuddle he probably would demand to sleep on the floor with the dog and Sanada could have his bed all for himself. But he didn’t know so he would probably give in when Sanada told him that he couldn’t sleep on the ground.
He would still make Akaya get off the floor. And the dog would probably come too. Shiro liked to sleep at the foot of his futon at home. It sounded like a very good warm sleep. He was looking forward to this more than he wanted to admit. Perhaps there was something good about Kime after all.
