My friends were supposed to get married last Halloween, but cancelled because of, you know. Instead the wedding was this past weekend, at a retreat center in the Adirondacks with everyone present verified as vaccinated. There were about a hundred people and for nearly all of us it was our largest gathering in nearly two years, and it was so nice to experience people again, and I say that even as an introvert who needed to distance himself from it all a couple of times.
Friday night we did a 'night mission', which someone defined for me as "LARPing for parkour people." It was fun scampering around in the woods in the dark, and thankfully the weather held out and nobody got hurt. Saturday was a rainy day but there was still time for a nice hike along the water before the wedding, along with a lot of indoor crosswording with my scrabble tile set. I introduced a half dozen people to the joys of cryptic clues this weekend.
The wedding was beautiful and felt very... them, in a satisfying way, and I was glad to be there to celebrate with them. My first in person wedding since the Mystery Hunt wedding in 2020, heh. I loved seeing dear friends for the first time since the pandemic started. The internet is great but it's not the same. And I loved that the weekend gave us time to sort of stretch out and unhurriedly spend time together without any agenda, along with the parts of the weekend that were dedicated to the wedding agenda.
This coming weekend I am going up to Boston for Hunt related stuff, and also to try to see other friends. It is nice feeling like doing a little travel isn't going to bring doom and destruction on everything. If things are not back to normal yet, at least there is that.
