I started reading
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen on Saturday after I got back from the library, and it's excellent. It's about a young guy in the 1930's or so who winds up working in a circus, and while the premise sounds a little bizarre, it's simply a great story -- intriguing characters, rich details and a wonderfully engaging narrative voice. I don't usually rec a book till I'm done, but I'm loving this one so far and I feel pretty confident that I will continue to do so. I'll let you know if it crashes and burns at the end. ;-)

Death Eater Poker by
vikingcarrotCharacters: Lucius, Rodolphus, Barty Jr, Rookwood and Macnair.
Rating: PG (but probably NWS)
Warnings: There's nudity, but it's non-sexual, there are no visible genitals. :P
Summary: Commission for a lovely and eternally patient girl on deviantART, of Death Eaters 'enjoying' a game of strip poker. Which is to say, the only person who's actually enjoying it is Rookwood, and possibly Roddy.
Barty is not enjoying it at all. :(
My Comments:
This totally made my evening when I saw it the other night, so I decided I'd fit it into February Recs Month somehow. First off, the concept is genius -- a bunch of big bad Death Eaters sitting around playing strip poker. But it's the facial expressions that make this piece -- Lucius looking completely snooty despite the fact that he's down to his skivvies, Macnair scowling and puffing away at a cigarette while he sits there in a kilt (!), and a butt-naked Barty Crouch looking despairingly at what's gotta be yet another dreadful hand. And don't miss the details -- like the playing cards and Macnair's kilt (!!).
This piece makes me laugh every time I look at it. Hope you all find it amusing too. :-)
