Fic comments

I have been extremely remiss about birthdays lately, so: happy belated to plain_as_jane, fictionalaspect, and chimosa, and happy birthday today to woldy and fitofpique!

I've been thinking about fic comments lately. When I'm reading fic on LJ/IJ/DW, I almost always read the previous comments before I leave my own -- not necessarily because I need ideas for what to say or anything like that, but because I love reading other people's reactions, and I often pick up details and different interpretations from the comments that I may have missed in the fic. I assume other people do this too, since I've seen many discussions about how people prefer reading fic on LJ/IJ/DW precisely because of the commenting/interactive aspect.

What I'm curious about is whether anyone else rereads the comments when they're rereading a fic. I almost always do (time permitting). I mean, if a story has two or three or six pages of comments I won't read them all, but for many of my favorite fics the first several comments are almost as much a part of the reading experience to me as the story itself. And I nearly always take the time to find and reread my own comment. Not sure why...perhaps I'm so used to leaving feedback that the fic reading experience doesn't really feel complete without closing that loop. Or because reading my comment brings back whatever I felt when I first read the fic. Hmm.

I'd be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts on the matter. :-)
