Challenges Guide

The three main challenge communities of atlaland are atla_jazzdragon, atla_thelibrary and atlaboilingrock.

For all challenge communities, you must comment with your team name in order to ensure that your team gets credit!

1) atla_jazzdragon is the community for games. Games are the most frequent of the challenges, and typically tend to be the easiest as well. There can be several games a week of various natures, and you get points (from 5-10 depending on difficulty) just for participating, even if you don't get the right answers or win!

For each game you will have to post your answers in the comments. Comments will be screened so people can't cheat off of you. In addition, there will be one comment at the beginning of the line that will be for questions you have concerning the game. Don't hesitate to ask if you need something to be explained; even though you get points for just participating, you can get more by winning and being correct so it's better to be safe than sorry!

If the game requires an image and you do not have any kind of image editing software let someone know. There are ways to work around this, but we won't know to give them unless you speak up!

For those who use the images, please upload them to a host such as imageshack or tinypic. Please also remember to comment with your team name so that you earn the points for them. :)

Once a game is completed the original post will be updated with who participated and how many points each team got.

2) atla_thelibrary and atlaboilingrock are the writing and graphics/media communities respectively.

In the initial entry post for each challenge you will post you answer in the comments, just like with the Jasmine Dragon. There will also be a visible comment that you can respond to for questions/comments/etc. Make sure to read the rules for each contest as each one will probably differ from others, whether that be the type of graphics or the length of the writing. If a contest is for textless icons and you make a quote icon, your entry will be disqualified (though we will tell you if you've made a mistake).

The basic structure of the writing/media prompts will look like this:

Challenge: (i.e. header contest)
Theme: (i.e. the animals of Avatar)
Specifications: (i.e. 600 width by 300 height)
Rules on Submitting: (i.e. comment, include your team name)
Due Date: (i.e. september 6th, 2009)
Questions: (i.e. ask them on the visible comment below!)

Do not show your art or fics to anyone until the voting is over! Voting should be anonymous in order to ensure that it's fair.
Because of this, also don't upload your images to private hosts like Photobucket. Please use anonymous ones like tinypic!

Also, don't forget to tell your team name! You will not receive points if we don't know who to distribute them to.

3) Voting Rules (IMPORTANT!!!)

If you do not vote correctly your vote will be null. Be sure to pay attention both to the rules here and the individual rules at different challenges.

1. Do not vote for yourself! This is very important. Even if you don't like any of the other entries it's unfair to vote for yourself--and it just seems wrong, anyway.

2. Unless otherwise stated, all entries must be unique to the challenge. You cannot re-use an old fic or an old graphic to enter into a challenge, even if it matches the theme.

3. And the biggie: only submit work you yourself have made! If you submit fanart or fanfiction that is not your own and we catch you you will be BANNED from all communities. It's not nice to steal other people's work, even with permission, and it should never be done.
