When you were trying to psyche yourself up for another day of this city, there were a few things that aided your readiness, and others that distracted from it. Happening to catch sight of a young woman plummeting from ceiling to floor, without sign of entrance nor exit, was hard to define as one or the other. Spin stared at the place where he could have sworn he saw the girl fall through, then down at his coffee. Around here, who knew what was really the result of not getting enough sleep or not?
The answer to that, though, was answered quickly enough, when she entered once more through the polished marble of the lobby floor, pulling herself up through it with an expression indicating that such experiences were a mild annoyance.
This place really attracted all kinds, Spin figured.
He took a quick few steps after her as she made her way towards the stairs, coffee in hand. "Hey--you all right, Miss? That, uh..." He waved a vague hand. "That looked like a kinda nasty fall."
"Aside from a majorly bruised ego? Totally fine," said Kitty. She ran a hand through her hair- or started, until her hand was stopped by a particularly nasty tangle, and she had to pull a bit. Sigh.
"Sorry if I startled you. I normally have better control than that," she said, sheepishly. "I'm Kitty, by the way. Kinda new here."
"Spin. Nice to meet you, weird circumstances as they are." He grinned, offering a hand. "Most people around here are on the new side, so at least you've got company on that side of things, huh?" He had no place to start asking questions about wallwalking; it was easier to just start taking things in stride, he'd found quite some time ago.
"For me? This really isn't all that weird," she admitted with a bit of a forced laugh, shaking the offered hand. "Hopefully the falling through floors thing doesn't become commonplace. I mean, I /can/ normally do that, move through solid matter, but I usually have better control." She shrugs a little. "Universe lag or something." That was her excuse, and she was sticking to it.
Spin laughed. "Another common thread 'round here. Seems no one can get their magic whatsis to work proper." Admittedly, that was a laugh he didn't much feel, either. He missed his Music Sense something passionate, and the fact that even the people who knew what was going on were having troubles didn't feel all that comforting. "Guess it gives us all closer to an even playing field, though."
"Mutant whatsis in my case," she said, though she didn't sound offended at all. "In my world, magic's kind of a whole other thing. One that I've only had mostly second-hand experience with... give or take a ninja demon possession or magic sword here or there." How is it she says these things with a straight face.
Spin gave some thoughtful nods in response. "Hmm, can't say how much of that goes on back home for me, we're relatively magic-free, save for some really dramatic stage magic. Though I guess there was a fire golem a few months back, someone probably summoned that jerk up. And I think I read an article once about werewolves in Japan. 'Sides from that, nothing too special goes down." He paused and tapped his chin. "And that one zombie invasion. It was a weird year."
Starr had been calmly brushing her teeth in the bathroom when she'd caught the blur of a girl falling from her ceiling and then through her floor. She blinked in surprise and spun around, toothbrush hanging out of her mouth, "Huh?"
You would think after seeing trolls and fairies she'd be used to strange things here. But, no, Starr was still baffled every time something unexpected happen. She took it in stride, mostly. Although, she had to wonder why a girl had just fallen through her ceiling and floor. Starr looked up, there wasn't a hole or anything. She knelt down and tapped the floor with her hand, nope...nothing.
Starr sighed, she knew she was going to have to look into this. She rinsed out the toothpaste from her mouth and then headed for the lobby, hopefully she hadn't been the only one to see that. Starr really didn't want to believe she was going crazy now of all times

"Um. Yeah, sorry, that was me," said Kitty, raising her hand and blushing a little after Starr arrived. "I kinda... do that. Well. I don't usually fall, but I can walk through things. I was startled awake and..." she bit her lip a little. "Lost control for a second there. Sorry if I scared you." She tried to smooth down her hair a bit.
Spin gave a grin and a wave to his coworker as she arrived. "Nothing to worry about, yeah, just a little argument with physics, is all." He paused, before shrugging. "Though, I wouldn't be surprised if there are ghosts. Seems like something this place would cook up."
He took a step in between them. "Kitty, this is Starr, Starr, Kitty. Starr and I work together, and Kitty and I... met." Maybe he really wasn't the best candidate for introductions, but it felt like the right thing to do anyway.
"Oh," Starr said, raising an eyebrow. She hadn't expected the mystery to be solved so easily. She gave the girl a once over. She looked athletic and was clearly around Starr's own age. Starr broke into an easy smile, "No biggie. I was more startled than anything." It'd take a lot more than a ghost falling through the ceiling to scare Starr.
Starr nodded at Spin, "I suppose a ghost wouldn't be too far fetched."
She then turned her attention back to Kitty, "What he said. I'm not sure if you can really count us as 'old' yet since we've only been here a few weeks ourselves."
Kitty remembered the hair elastic she had around her wrist, and tamed her morning 'do into a loose ponytail. Ugh, she needed some serious conditioning soon.
"Well, it's nice to meet my new 'neighbors,' so to speak," she said with a laugh. "I'll try to keep the early morning visits to a minimum in the future," she promised.
