DARKNESS! THE DARKNESS IS SPREADING!

(please note how I hid this HUGE image behind an LJ-Cut so that those without sufficient width on their LJ friends page won't be driven friggin' bonkers)

This album is like a triple-dose of pure, unfiltered awesome. Just look at that cover image! sacredspud disagreed with my labeling it "gorgeous", but it's certainly very artful. The cover is actually a wraparound, with Heaven's pearly gates gracing the back, and a stream of doves morphing into the bats on the other side. Taken in as a whole image, it really is quite lovely.

And glossy. The whole booklet is made of this sturdy, glossy paper. Exquisite. And it smells... perfumed?

Then there's the music itself. Very different emphasis from the Permission to Land. It's like their whole thing is being a living, breathing Spinal Tap, and each ablum "spoofs" (or pays homage, or whatever) to specific hard rock/metal styles. I think the titular song proves that.

I think my favorite is "Knockers" (followed by "Bald"), featuring a crazy-ass funk piano. A piano! There are other nutty instruments in there, including full orchestration for one song. Now, it might seem obvious why a song called "Knockers" might be my favorite, but I swear the only mention of the fabled mammaries is in the line "you're beautiful and busty, and I'm a little rusty". I couldn't even really hear the vocal track the first three times through because my laptops headphone jack is acting up. Really!

(Speaking of "Bald", for the curious: at about 0:45 and 4:45, there is a distinct blip that sounds very much like the Trillian IM notification sound. I don't know if that's just one of their wicked guitars hitting some crazy harmonics or what, but if it's just an accident it's a very tonally accurate one.)

Also... I have no idea why there was an explicit lyrics warning on it, or how an "edited" version might even be different

ZELDA DS!

In gaming news, The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass has been announced for the DS. It's like a 2.5D classic Zelda adventure in the style of Wind Waker, but utilizing the unique features of the DS. Given how much you use the stylus to draw and write notes to yourself, I think the visual style meshes very well. I'm glad they didn't have to ditch making a game in the Wind Waker style in favor of the super-sexy Twilight Princess.

All the same, I feel kind of Zelda'ed out. I still haven't picked up Minish Cap...

MORE "GLOMPING"

Someone pointed this out to me a while ago, but somehow I totally forgot about it. Check out this entry in Wikipedia on Glomping. Notice anything about the image? I made that flyer... so proud! And it's not even one of my better ones.

Also, in random news, I apparently broke 200 lbs recently.
