The
Vid-Commentary comm on LJ is doing an interview series and I was one of the lucky random vidders selected. (Thank you to whoever suggested me. I feel very out of touch with the vidding community given how very sharply my output has dropped over the last couple of years, so I appreciate even being asked.) I am in a group with four other amazing vidders, and now we need your questions!
Go here and ask - comments are screened, and you can either ask specific vidders or all of us whatever you'd like.

I found this quote yesterday and it really resonated with me, so I'm sharing it:
"When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or our family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change."
- Thich Nhat Hanh
I don't entirely agree with it - people aren't lettuce, for one thing, and have agency that lettuce lacks - and sometimes blaming (or at least persuasion using reason and argument!) IS the right thing to do. However, I think the spirit of the quote is what really hit me, not the particulars of it.
That being said - more meme! Work was an absolute BEAST this week, but I think things may be returning to normal. *knocks on EVERYTHING*
30 Day TV Meme
Day 11 - A show that disappointed you
I have three answers to this, for three different reasons.
1. Glee - I was mostly enjoying the pilot episode the first time I watched it, and then they completely blew me away with "Don't Stop Believing," and I instantly was hooked. And then in the first season, I slowly came to dislike every character but Sue Sylvester and ultimately ended up feeling like the emotions of the show were never earned; I always felt like I could see the creators hand in everything - "you should be sad here," "you should be proud," "you should be worried" - it never felt organic to me. I was only watching for the songs, and when the show came back from the mid-season hiatus, I just stopped watching because I could get the songs from iTunes. I did watch the episode with Neil Patrick Harris and the finale and while there were moments where it interested me again, I was left overall with the same feeling of disappointment that it never, for me, got back to that moment at the end of the pilot.
2. Enterprise - This was such an interesting premise and they RUINED IT, THOSE RUINERS. The first season was uneven but had potential; the second season sort of got better and then tanked; the third season was horrific and I honestly can't believe we stuck with it the entire time, but I'd become INVESTED (and also really fell for Tripp in season 3 - he was BY FAR the best thing about the show), and then the fourth season was fantastic (once they got rid of Bermaga), until the FUCKING SEASON FINALE. I HATE THAT FINALE SO FUCKING MUCH. STILL. TO THIS DAY. RAGE BLACKOUT. RAAAAAAGE.
Also, they made a mediocre opening theme even worse in season 3. The TWoP recapper is hilarious for this show, I will say.
3. Battlestar Galactica - This is my ultimate disappointment show, though, because it started out so brilliantly and then swirled down into something I was SO upset and angry with by the end. I feel like my feelings for Adama are basically my feelings for the show: I loved him so much and was just mesmerized and freaked out by the season 1 finale, and then over time I actually grew to hate him, until by the series finale...well, if you've read my series finale post, you know. Heh. Anyway - the most disappointing thing ABOUT BSG to me (and there are MANY THINGS that are disappointing to me) is how it was clearly not the show I thought I was watching, and in RDM's head, it never was, which makes all the brilliant stuff about it feel kind of accidental, and therefore ruins it for me retroactively. Someday I want to do a re-watch, knowing what I know now, and hoping that it comes back, because I have vid ideas I still sort of want to make. Non-bitter ones, even!

Day 11- A song that reminds you of summer
Timely, given we finally had summery weather this week! You get two this week.
Duran Duran - "The Chauffeur" (mp3; box.net) - This one reminds me of late, oppressively hot afternoons where you're sitting around, sweating, but the air is still rich with promise.
Dala - "Drive Through Summer" (mp3; box.net) - This one reminds me of a breezy drive along the coast on a beautiful summer day. And even has 'summer' in the title!
