Music is, in fact, good for your health. I am totally unsurprised by this news, but pleased to see it nonetheless.
I was checking Hulu today to see if there are any preview clips up yet for the Prison Break finale this week (there aren't) and was amused to see people heatedly complaining that the show messed up by having the Indian ambassador say he was burying his son and not cremating him and railing about "how could they not look up this simple fact??". While they are totally right to be annoyed by that, I'm just surprised that people think the PB writers look up ANYTHING. They had a man remove a full chest/back/arm tattoo in one night without any scarring or pain medication. I'm pretty sure getting the funeral rights of another culture wrong doesn't even register on the PB writers' radar.
Guess what I'm not going to talk about? The Star Trek movie! Because I haven't seen it yet! Take THAT, peer pressure!
Though I am a Trek fan in general, my bread-and-butter is TNG, not the original series. I've seen most of TOS, but not all of it and never was obsessive about it the way I was with TNG. (I've also only seen about a season of Deep Space Nine, an episode of Voyager, and for some ungodly reason sat through ALL of Enterprise even though I wanted to maim everyone involved (except Tripp) by the end.) Still, I've seen all the movies (even Star Trek V, which...wow, it doesn't get more aggressively awful than THAT so all those people who say Nemesis was the worst Trek movie can bite me) and so figured when the first trailer for the Star Trek reboot popped up that I would be in line to see this one. But for some reason as opening day drew closer, and the trailers got more explicit with what the movie was going to be like, I grew less and less interested. I'm at the same place now that I was when Ironman came out and was a huge hit: everyone I know is telling me how great it is, but I still don't want to see it. I suspect I will reluctantly go and have a great time (which is what happened with Ironman), it's just a matter of when.
Especially since Terminator: Salvation is out in two weeks and I am REALLY looking forward to that. (Which is kind of hilarious because when I first heard about that movie, I swore I would never see it. Go figure.)
Mostly I find myself really in need of a few good TNG icons. Hm. Oh, and
taraljc has an excellent
10 Things You Should Probably Know About Star Trek post for people new to the fandom/show, for those of you who have gone and are fresh in love. :)
ETA: I just want to point out that I'm not railing against other people talking about the movie, so I hope it didn't come across that way. Please continue!
It is an unexpectedly gorgeous day today (we were supposed to have rain but right now at least it is sunny!), my yard looks 1/3 better than it did yesterday, and I have been reminded how awesome the friends I've met through fandom are. I'm in a pretty good mood right now! I also caught up on almost all of my comments, though emails are still languishing. Baby steps.
