I broke down and brought most of the houseplants in yesterday: the Boston ferns, the palms, one banana plant, the cactus, the spider plant, and the lemon and lime trees. I'm sitting on the deck, overhung by my blooming white wisteria, feeling like Mercury -- the planet not the deity. My front is toasty warm facing the sun while my back is a bit chilly. Sitting on the deck yesterday, watching the birds flit down to my pond for a drink and a splash, I caught sight of a brilliant blue head sitting in my red laceleaf Japanese maple. It was a bluebird! The small rose bush (Gourmet Popcorn) I put out by the mailbox nearly a decade ago was supposed to be a miniature rose. Hah! Hah, I say!
