Hi Uzbekistan :)

OH LOOK. THERE'S CANADA. NICE COATS. AND TUQUES.

HI CANADA HI CANADA HI

Wow, listen to that crowd cheer! *waves at Canadian military in Kandahar*

I love how the athletes all have cameras and are filming the crowd.

Brian Adams and Nelly Furtado! Not loving the music, but hey, happy people singing and dancing!

The commercials, the Canadian ones in particular, are pretty damn awesome.

Hi, Donald Sutherland!! Ooh, I really, really love the look to "Hymn to the North". More aboriginal POVs, nice. Immigrants at Pier 21, Halifax. Love, love, the radiating energy. Wow, WOW. Northern Lights! White buffalo for north, eagle for east, great wolf for the south, and the bear to the west. GIGANTIC SPIRIT BEAR. GIGANTIC SPIRIT BEAR.

Whoa. Seriously awesome effects with the ice cracking and water flooding. It occurs to me now that if you don't want to be spoiled for the Opening Ceremonies, you should quickly scroll past this post.

WHALES. HOLY FREAKIN WHALES.

More native imagery. This is gorgeous, it really is.

"The Sacred Grove". Wow, awesome totem poles. Oh, look! It's the forests of British Columbia! (Aka every alien world on Stargate.)

Sarah McLachlan singing Ordinary Miracle. ILU Sarah!

"Rhythms of Fall". Hi fiddlers!! Why, hello there, Celts of Canada. (Apparently Loreena McKennitt was there with her harp, but I missed it. Will have to watch again online.) Country dance! It's very Riverdance, and I LOVE IT. Lovely, lovely red maple leaves falling from the sky. HA. I knew Ashley MacIsaac was gonna show up!

W.O. Mitchell. JONI MITCHELL. Whoa, nice wire-work. (I missed the title of this segment though, alas. Anyone catch what it was?)

"Peaks of Endeavour". The Rocky Mountains! Oooh, more wire-work! Guys on skis and snowboards! (I wonder what the insurance is on those guys.)

"We Are More". Slam poet? Hi, you, you. Did you just make a "polite Canadian" joke? DID YOU JUST MAKE A ZED JOKE??? Omigod, re-foresting! Omigod, choices. Hi, nice poem, guy!

The officials are extending their condolences on the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili. God, he was young.

k.d. lang singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Yeah, that's right, that's a Canadian song. God, her voice is amazing. Nice white suit too.

Hee! My sister: "Awww, Donald Sutherland! His hair matches his suit!" Bobby Orr! Ooh, female Canadian astronaut.

The Olympic anthem sung by Measha Brueggergosman of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Wow, what a woman!

One minute of silence.

Oh. Oh. I see what's gonna happen here with the torches. I see what they plan to do. (Technical difficulties? Love the awkward smile on Steve Nash. That's right, wave and smile, nothing to see here.) Oh yay, there go the pillar thingies! Oh no, one is not coming up! Drama! But yay, the flame is lit! Mmm, fire pretty. *g* Fireworks prettier!

Poor Gretzky is getting chased by crazed hockey fans! He's finally got the torch up to the external flame site. Oooh, pretty fire! I have no idea what those slanty pillar things are supposed to represent. But what a sight!

My previous Olympic post.
