UM HI THAR OLYMPICS

Feb 12, 2010 21:02

I actually hadn't planned to watch, but then midnightsjane posted about the Games and watching the Torch relay, and then my sister made me stop watching The Dead Zone so she could watch the Opening Ceremonies on CTV.

So here we are, watching the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games!

And liveblogging it! (Well, I'm not sure what my sister is doing, but she has her MacBook open too.) Whoa, nice city, Vancouver! *waves at Vancouver flist* Nice mountains you got there. Lots of snow.

Ooh, nice Maple Leaf on the mountain, guys!

Ooh, hi thar, Her Excellency, The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean!

Ooh, Mounties!

My sister doesn't like the national anthem much, though. Why so power ballad-y? *g* I'm amused, though. This is Canada. This is how we roll.

Ooh, the four host nations! Love the raising arms!

DUDE. THAT IS A REALLY BIG DRUM. Hi, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit!

(Um, yeah, I'm kind of tearing up now. Because wow, that's beautiful. Hi, aboriginal peoples of Canada.)

Ooh, the athletes are coming in! And here's the part of tonight's program in which I display my geographical ignorance. Andorre is apparently a country in Europe?

I'm excited to see China, Croatia, and Czech, for the personal connections.

Oh, God. There's Georgia with black armbands and their hats off. I'm tearing up again.

Huh. Why is Hong Kong, China separate from China itself?

Flag-bearer from Kazakhstan: your hat is AWESOME.

Sweden's here. We gotta get that gold for men's hockey away from them.

Uh-huh, 216 athletes, United States? Hi, VP Joe Biden.
