Holiday stress and joy (plus TWW fic rec!)

Dec 21, 2006 20:08

Good: I'm home, finally. Tomorrow should be a fairly light day. Or at least I'm making it light, because I don't plan to work all that hard now that I've finished the most crucial projects and met my deadlines.

Bad: Soooo frustrated at work today. I had to escape to my Special Hiding Place (the back stairwell that nobody uses) so I could swear and yell and kick the crap out of the walls instead of pitch a fit in front of my co-workers. I've added a few more scuff marks onto those green tiled walls in the stairwell. I wonder if the cleaning crew ever wonder about those?

Good: My aunt is home from Panama! She arrived yesterday and she'll be staying until mid-January, I believe. Tomorrow evening my sister is treating us all for sushi to celebrate her new job, and to congratulate our aunt on graduating from seminary.

Bad: Our internet is not working very well right now, which is dismaying because I wanted to download more NCIS!

Excellent: Last night I received another Christmas card in the mail! From black_eyedgirl, all the way from the UK by Royal Mail! It's funny seeing Queen Elizabeth's profile facing the other way. The card is cute, of course, but the best part was the fic inside :) Two snippets entitled "Festive Kisses", Toby/Will and Toby/Sam. I love them both, Laura! The West Wing always does the best Christmas episodes, and both these little stories harken to the magic and delightful surprise of the season, the warmth and comfort and cheer. Oh Toby! Oh Sam! Oh Will! Beautifully done, Laura, and your handwriting makes it that much more personal, thank you!

Not Bad, Per Se, But Not Great: I am so behind in commenting in people's journals. I haven't exactly been spreading the Christmas joy. By the time I get home from work, I don't even want to skim my flist. I just veg with my backlog of TV shows.

Even Better Than Excellent: black_eyedgirl has posted her tww_minis OT3 fic, Speech after long silence. Toby and Sam and Will, men of words. Writers and writing. In a class of their own. Watching the State of the Union the way other men watch live sporting events. What it means to inspire, to create poetry, to speak to the hearts and minds of the people. I love these three SO MUCH, I don't even have the words.

Oops: I haven't even started to THINK about my tww_minis OT3 assignment! Not to mention my Andrea fic, or all the other fic I've promised to finish for Christmas! Oy vey...

Pretty Good: I need to post about Tamora Pierce's Beka Cooper: Terrier, which I finished reading the day I bought it (at 4:30am on a week night, and oh yes, a full work day the next morning) and thoroughly enjoyed. I have meta I wanted to share with q_sama ( her review here). Really liked Beka and really liked the story being told here.

The Grumpy: Still hating this update page.

Joy To The World: Well, there is that little thing about my Lord and Saviour being born to save me from sin. That one goes in the plus column :)

Fannish Things I Find Vastly Amusing:

1) When I first started watching NCIS last year, I wanted to make a Gibbs/Tony icon that said "I Love My Gay Republican Show." But then I got a couple of comments from Americans who told me that it's not canon that any of the characters on NCIS are Republicans, and they could in fact be Democrats, at which point I laughed and laughed and laughed. And laughed some more. I never really continued the conversation because it seemed a little pointless, but seriously, dude.

If Gibbs is a Democrat, then Sam Seaborn is a Republican. And I'm a card-carrying member of the Bloc Quebecois.

2) Today is Duncan MacLeod's birthday! He's 414-years-old and counting! Happy birthday, Solstice Child! *g*

3) I really want to write some TWW crossovers. I've got Toby Ziegler and Nikki Wood in New York City in the 1970s. I want to expand this universe even more, get other Buffyverse characters involved.

Also, I've got Kate Harper being abducted during Season 7 and Will freaking out, with Gibbs leading the investigation since NCIS always heads the investigation when Navy or Marine personnel are involved, and Kate is a Navy commander. Imagine CJ meeting Gibbs? It'd be awkward and painful, but I think Gibbs would come to respect her. Wow, Gibbs and a bunch of Democrats. Hee!
