Part One Severus Snape opened the door to his small home and was greeted with the sight of a kicking and punching excited baby who smiled up at him as if he were the cleverest little boy there was.
“Hello Uncle Severus! Can I come in play with you? I’ve been terribly, terribly good and I promised Daddy I wouldn’t break anything this time!” Harry chuckled as he stood behind Draco while the blonde man held Alex up, hiding his face behind the baby as he spoke for him.
“Really Malfoy, is this what your life has come down to? Using your progeny as little more than a tool to inflict your poor sense of humour on others?” There was no Malice in Severus’ voice and he reached a finger out to Alex’s hand who took is gladly and gurgled happily. He had always liked Severus and whether he would admit it or not, anyone who was around the Potions Master when he was with Alex could tell he was smitten.
Draco’s blonde head appeared out from behind Alex and he grinned goofily at his godfather as he settled the squirming infant on his hip.
“It’s nice to see you too, Severus,” Draco smiled cheekily and bustled in through the door past the taller man. Harry smiled apologetically at Severus and he simply nodded in return and stepped back to allow Harry to pass and he struggled with Alex’s changing bag and carrycot they’d bought in case he fell asleep.
They settled in the living room, Draco and Harry on the sofa, Alex sitting up on the floor sucking on a teething ring and Severus in his usual wingback chair. He smiled down at Alex as the baby launched himself forward and supported his own weight on his arms, the little guy had started crawling a couple of weeks ago and Harry and Draco had been hard pressed to keep up with him ever since. He began swiftly crawling towards his Grand-Godfather and Severus’ eyebrows shot up into his hairline when he sat down and reached out to grab handfuls of his Severus black trousers. Alex pulled himself up into an unsteady standing position and stared up at Severus, his grey eyes gleaming. Severus suddenly got a clear vision of Draco doing the same thing twenty-five years ago and he smiled softly at the child that despite all that unruly dark hair looked so like his blonde parent. Harry and Draco shared a surprised look; Alex still found it difficult going to anybody but his parents, despite always loving Severus they were still surprised their child willingly went to him.
“He’s grown so much since you were last here,” Severus stated as he ran a long pale hand through the babies hair while he stood in front of him, barely reaching his knees.
“Yeah he really has, everyone has been saying so. He’s been talking too,” Draco beamed proudly.
“Its more like babbling Severus, we managed to get to him to say “bana” a few days ago and Draco thinks we have a genius on our hands,” Harry teased his husband but rubbed Draco’s leg reassuringly as he did it, Severus simply chuckled.
“Well you never know; he could be a genius yet. Especially if you bring him here more often,” Severus gently chastised them, he loved having the three of them here and although he was often at their home in London he felt it would be nice for Alex to visit him in country more often. Surely all that smog and pollution wasn’t good for the baby? Also there was the fact that at times he got horribly lonely and Draco was the only family he had.
“I know we’ve been really bad at coming out here, it’s just such a hassle sometimes what with all of Alex’s stuff and not being able Apparate and Floo-ing being difficult,” Draco explained, and lowered his head guiltily.
“I know, I know I just think it would be healthy for the child to spend time with people who don’t have red hair,” Severus directed his comment at Harry and smirked when the former Gryffindor looked offended. Harry and Severus had long ago gotten used to the fact that they would forever be in each others lives and were now bordering on friendly towards one another. Harry smiled back, he knew by now not to take Severus seriously.
“Okay we promise to come and visit more often, alright?” Draco rolled his eyes and slipped off of the sofa and onto the floor in front of Alex.
“Come to Daddy Alex,” Draco held out his finger to the little boy who turned at the sound of his name and gripped his Daddy’s finger tightly and pulled himself closer. For a shaky second he was wobbling in mid air as he let go of Severus’ leg and waited for Draco to take his other hand. “Good boy!” Alex, with the help of Draco toddled towards his father and collapsed onto his lap and snuggled into Draco’s chest. Draco ran his fingers through the baby’s hair and cradled him with his other arm against his chest. “That’s my good boy,” Draco ran his nose across the top of Alex’s head and sat in the middle of the floor holding him.
Severus gazed down at the scene in front of him and tried to envision Lucius Malfoy behaving in such a way with Draco, however, Lucius Malfoy got on the floor for nobody but Voldemort. In that instant Severus knew he would never doubt Draco’s parenting abilities, here in front of him was not the petulant child he had been for so many years, or the angry teenager he disappeared behind after his father went to Azkaban. He was a man and was behaving as such.
“Severus there was actually a reason we came to talk to you today,” Harry’s voice was hesitant and he instantly got Severus’ attention. He looked up just in time to catch the silent exchange and nod between the two younger men occupying his living room.
“Well do spill the beans as it were, Potter,” Severus folded his hands over his lap and his dark eyes stared expectantly at Harry.
“We were thinking about possibly, well- Draco and I are going to try and- We wanted-” Draco rolled his eyes at his partner’s lack of eloquence.
“What he’s trying to say is that we want to have another child,” Draco finished for Harry and stared up at his godfather, waiting for some kind of reaction. Severus was surprised to say the least and more than a bit concerned, he honestly didn’t think Draco should go through such a taxing procedure again. He could only guess at the kind of stresses it put on the body and he really didn’t want to see his godson permanently damaged by the pregnancy. After all what would be the point of having another child if Draco was not there with Harry to raise it.
“Draco I do not think it wise for you to have another child,” Severus said solemnly and was surprised at the hurt look that flittered across his godson’s features.
“I knew it,” Draco sighed and looked down at his son who was now sitting in the V of Draco’s legs and pulling on Draco’s shirt buttons.
“Knew what exactly?” Severus asked and looked at Harry who was also frowning in confusion.
“I knew you wouldn’t agree to it, you don’t think Harry and I have been very good parents, I know we haven’t come very over often recently and I know we argue sometimes but we’re really trying Sev,” Harry frowned at the way his husband’s voice shook and he looked up at Severus to see if Draco had been correct, after all he knew Snape better than anyone and if that was what he was implying then there would be trouble. Severus frowned back at Harry then looked down at Draco who was pointedly not looking at anyone.
“I do believe you’ve mistaken what I was saying Mr Malfoy, I think you and Mr Potter have been wonderful parents, however, I don’t think Draco should go through another procedure,” Harry exhaled sharply, glad there would be no confrontation today.
“Severus we should have explained properly, it won’t be Draco who’ll be pregnant, it’ll be me,” Harry met the once again surprised expression of the Potions Master and bit his lip waiting for his response.
“You?” Severus smirked, the thought of the all-mighty Harry Potter heaving over a toilet bowl every morning was enough to do that and he was suddenly very keen to agree.
“I know that look Sev, stop thinking about all the horrible things that Harry is going to go through,” Harry smiled down at his husband weakly, he couldn’t ignore the slight smirk on Draco’s own lips; Fucking Slytherins.
“I’m doing nothing of the sort,” Harry frowned as more smirking occurred, he coughed nervously, reminding them both that he was in fact still in the room.
“Right, so Severus is it possible? Could Harry become pregnant?” Draco asked, suddenly serious again.
“I don’t see why not, he’s as fit as you were Draco, maybe even more so,” Draco snorted at that which Severus ignored and continued. “It would take a while to get the first of the five potions ready, and you know the risks that are involved. Your body might reject the womb the first potion grows, and there is a possibility that the embryo won’t survive after the second,” Harry and Draco nodded respectfully even though they had heard it all a thousand times before when Draco had Alex. “Saying that if the embryo ‘sticks’ as it were after that then you should be fine, and since Draco was kind enough to be my Guinea Pig then we know what to expect.” Severus concluded and looked at the two young men waiting for any questions.
“So that’s a yes?” Draco asked, his face absolutely beaming.
“Yes Draco, that’s a yes,” Snape smiled genuinely, a rare occasion. Draco scrambled up from the floor and threw himself at Harry who embraced him and they began laughing hysterically.
Alex remained on the floor and was looking between his parents and Severus, startled by the sudden movement and shrieking. He began to whimper, not really sure what was happening and he held his hands up to Severus beseechingly seeing as he was the only one not making any noise. Severus looked down at him and frowned at the wide eyed look the baby was giving him. He smiled softly and scooped Alex up and shooed him.
“Gentlemen, gentlemen, maybe before you get too caught up in the fact that you’re going to have another you should tend to the one you already have,” Severus nodded towards the baby who was clutching desperately at the front of his shirt, his whimpers quickly tuning into sobs and Draco rolled off of Harry.
“Ooh baby! Come to Daddy!” Draco leaned forward to take Alex but when he noticed Draco coming he buried his face in Severus’ shirt once more, they had obviously scared him.
“Oh no, don’t be scared Alex!” Draco cried but all Alex did was turned to look at he still had a death grip on Severus. Harry got up and was next to Draco in an instant.
“See look Alex, Papa’s fine! Daddy didn’t hurt him! Daddy loves Papa!” Draco slowly wrapped his arms around Harry’s shoulders and pressed a soft kiss to Harry’s stubbled cheek. Alex’s whimpers ceased into snuffles and Harry reached out run his hand down his baby’s back. All the while Severus stood there rolling his eyes.
“Come to Daddy Alex?” Draco smiled reassuringly and held his hands out to his child who finally moved into his touch and let Draco take him. “Daddy’s good boy,” Draco cooed to him as he settled against his chest.
“Dadadadada…” Alex began to chant into Draco’s chest and the blonde man looked up at his husband and godfather, it was the first time he had said that particular word and Draco was beaming with pride.
“Well-done Alex,” Harry smiled softly at Severus who was smiling back, the Gryffindor was happy that the older man had been present when Alex did this, he didn’t want him to think that he wasn’t included in their lives. Severus had done something for them that nobody else could possibly have and for that Harry would be forever grateful.
“Why don’t we move into the kitchen, I’ll make us some tea and you can give Alex his bottle before we have some dinner?” Severus smiled and led the four of them into the kitchen.
