LG, scrabble content edition
All of you people who posted something last night impress me - I went more or less directly to bed.
I knew going in that I wasn't going to be able to do as well as I could if I were more in a Scrabble mindset. The start up of the school year has been more intense than usual with the graduate seminar that I'm taking. In my first game, I almost chickened out on PEARLITE and really had no idea whether AFF could take the S (it can't). The most studying that I had done pre-LG was the anamonic quizzes in the car on the way there with jmallick, who is always an excellent travel companion for such things. He even made up an anamonic for TSUNAMI on the ride, which is STORMS CLASH.
It felt a lot more mediocre than 10th place with a small ratings bump. Most of my wins were hard to lose. Highlight was probably getting 598 in 11 turns. Lowlights were shaky word knowledge, drawing one blank on day one where I needed more support to be able to shake off the rust, and being very dizzy all day Sunday.
First loss I was too rusty to think properly. Two games lost on bad concentration with blank. One lost on bagging. Three lost (in part) on bad challenges. This should all be fixable. Back to studying. I think I've decided that it's more important to me to get better at Scrabble than to get a doctorate. I don't know if this makes me more or less insane than most people.
