The folks at my local chuan'r stand are taking a good liking to me. One of these days I'm going to have to sit there from when they open to when they close, get shit drunk and eat as I'm hungry. My Chinese will improve quite a bit, and for sure I will be able to understand shittily spoken Chinese (like that of the guy whose store sells beer across the alley from the chuan'r stand) by the time I'm done here. Not to mention that it will keep me from getting homesick. I had my first twinge of homesickness today after I woke up at about 7 (long night of dancing at Mayflower last night... then awkard not being able to sleep), because I thought too hard about cheese and crackers and absolutely needed some god damn cheese. But my trip to the chuan'r stand totally set that off. Also, the potatoes were kind of sweet, which was a pleasant surprise. I'm not stoked for shitty cafeteria food tomorrow, but it's needed because I've been burning too much money on McDonalds (I don't know why it's comfort food, I've never had a Mickey D's burger in America). Stoked for Beijing. Stoked for learning Chinese. Stoked on motherfucking life, god dammit.
Oh, and also, Friday night before the bar sucked. I offended an old Chinese woman because she didn't make a lot of pork dumplings and mostly made shrimp, and I only ate about 7 dumplings maybe (then she thought I was saying she didn't make enough food for me). But I was never asked if I wanted shrimp, which everyone else was. You'd think if she knew I was in the bathroom she might wait to ask such questions to my group, or maybe even ask me when I was done. If I was less of a sissy and knew better Chinese, I would have turned the offense back on her. But tonight my shitty mood was fixed for sure.
