Comic Relief is a charity organization that was founded in the United Kingdom in 1985, by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis, in response to famine in Ethiopia. A Red Nose Day has been held every 2 years since 1988 with schools, offices etc having ‘dress down’ days etc. The day culminates in a live TV event on BBC One. This year Red Nose Day was held on Friday 13th March. Since its inception Comic Relief has raised over £950 million. Currently 60% of the money raised goes to fund projects in Africa with the remainder finding community projects in the UK. The 2009 motto was ‘Do something funny for money’.

“So, what do people do for Comic Relief?” Jack asked.
“Sponsored cycles,” Gwen suggested.
“Or walks,” Ianto added, thinking of his moonlit walk round the bay with Jack the previous night.
“Coffee mornings,” Gwen smiled as Jack’s eyes lit up. “Or abseiling down tall builings,” she added. Ianto shook his head.
“Or dressing up?” Jack asked.
“Oh, definitely. Why?” Gwen replied.
Jack shrugged as he pulled a pile of coins from his coat pocket. “People kept handing them to me.”
“Typical Jack Harkness,” Gwen snorted. “Saving mankind from aliens and doing something funny for money at the same time!”
