[The trickster looks down at a small mountain village from the air, the individual houses and people minuscule from almost a mile up. Next to him hovers a gorgeous Indian woman in a traditional sari and she looks upon the scene below with a hard, stony expression that doesn't diminish her beauty. The sun is just appearing over the horizon and the villagers and sheep herders are busy at their morning tasks. Even if they had chanced to look up, they would only see the clear sky, the two beings watching them invisible to their sight.
Minutes passed before the deep rumbling started. A few small stones at first, then larger rocks as the steep rain-swelled mountainside above the town began to roll like water, earth and trees and mud drawn into the churning slide. The villagers noticed and even from here trickster could feel their panic and hear their screams.
It wasn't enough time. There was no time.
The massive mudslide swept through the village, tearing houses from the ground and swallowing every living thing in it's path. Hundreds ran from the wall of destruction, but all were overcome by the avalanche. The mountain roared and devoured all sign that a village had ever existed. The end was as sudden as it had started and all below was still and silent and dead. It had taken no more than a few minutes.
The woman had a small smile on her face now, as if the destruction of so many lives had pleased her.]
"What did they do, Kali?" he asked quietly.
"Nothing..." she purred and licked her fingers as if she had just polished off a feast.
[He knew that wasn't the complete truth. Kali was a goddess of destruction and death, but even she usually had a reason. Even if it was as simple as boredom or hunger or revenge.]
"Had another fight with Shiva, did you?" he said with an undertone of snarky taunting.
"Good guess," she purred. "But I'm over him. I've moved on." She slid against him and nibbled his ear and he could feel that she was still angry. Angry and hungry. He wrapped his arms around her and gazed at the destruction below before meeting her eyes that flashed red.
"Love me?" he asked.
"No~..." Kali drew out with a teasing smile and smokiness in her eyes. They disappeared with a flash.
