Well, so far, so good as far as the meds are concerned, though I haven't had the chance to find out what my BP is now, and I did get a bit light-headed after having a bheer last night (it eventually passed and I went to bed...if I can't have bheer while on this stuff, I am going to be one royally pissed Scooter). And DW did make an appointment for me to see the periodontist - same as opening night for the play, but fortunately in the morning. The sap had two appointment slots open for the next month - that was the earlier one. I mean jeez, should I get my suit pressed? Slip a sawbuck to the hygienist for a good chair?
I'm looking forward to not posting about my health from here on out. In fact I had a marvelous, content-filled post form and quickly exit from my brain while I was driving to Arundel Mills yesterday; it was on the Don Imus nonsense with the Rutgers basketball team and was going to be fairly "politically unexpected", which I think is a more accurate term than "politically correct". It will happen.
While at Arundel Mills, I had a somewhat awkward encounter. One of the kiosks in the middle of the mall was selling scented oils and incense, and I wanted to buy some for the church (ULC, that is). There was a single shopkeeper there, who I believe was Chinese. I saw a scent that I wanted and while indicating this to the shopkeeper, saw a similar boxed version on another shelf and asked what the difference was. I got a reply of "Ahn?" She had no clue what I was saying; the most she could do was repeat the name on the box when I pointed at it. So to make matters simple, so I thought, I just indicated what I wanted by pointing at it and went to check out, giving her a ten-spot for a $3.15 purchase. She punched $.10 into the register, looked perplexed, did it again, shook her head...tried various combinations a few more times. Finally she got it right, and realized that the change shown by the register was off...so she tried to do it in her head. Six dollars she got, but then stared in confusion at the change as she had no idea what combination of coins added to 85 cents. She handed me two quarters and two nickels and smiled triumphantly. I shook my head sadly. She stared again at the cash drawer, thought for a bit, and finally produced another nickel. "No, sorry," I said. "May I...?" "Ahn! Ahn!" she responded, waving her hands, and with a supreme effort, swiped back two of the nickels and handed me three dimes. "There!"
I mean, "fresh off the boat" is usually a humorous exaggeration, but I'm not sure if it wasn't the reality of the situation here. And given some of the things that
ratravarman said about his job at a similar kiosk once upon a recent time, you have to wonder about such things. (The incense, btw, is very light in its scent. Caveat emptor.)
Did the stumblethrough on Act I last night. I had my lines down (bobbled one but recovered), but I think I was the only one...then again, I've got a small part. We'll see. And Kid-2 may get a bit part in Volpone; she's thinking about it because she wants to be more of a social butterfly with her friends at the skating rink - she's getting to the age now where every social encounter is huge and loaded with significance, and she apparently missed a chance to gossip be there for her friends while helping for Murder Takes the Stage. I'm trying not to "push" her too much, but this would be a great opportunity for her. I'd like to do it, too, but am so completely booked that I'm going to have to take this one off. Maybe in the fall I'll see about picking up with a production.
