You guys, my balcony looks gorgeous. I bought some zinnias and violas and some new pots -- the umbrella plant needed a bigger one and I found this great cobalt-blue one with a swirly white floral design, and the other two are cheap ones from Target: magenta and yellow. The zinnias and the daisy aren't blooming at the moment, and the strawberries are still kinda peaked, but all the green in cheerful pots looks fantastic.
I found this whole list of heat/drought tolerant plants, so I'm sure next year will be completely different. Gazania, verbena, nicotiana, and asters are all candidates. (Never been a fan of petunias. Not sure why.) And apparently there's a new strain of impatiens that likes the sun: sunpatiens!
I'm thinking it might be fun to grow peppers, too. Bell or hot.
