oh my god
they are so fucked up and I want them to fix each other somehow and agghhhhh
every time you write something I feel like my own fic is hopelessly idealized, and THIS is the real article. Fuck.
Also thank you for the tiny hint of Danielle/Twilight Lady. Not enough of that in the world.

That's basically why I ship it. Whenever I think about Ror/Dan, I always want them to work out, even though the odds are stacked against them.
...Then I think about what happened in canon, and I make a :( face.

Your fic is as hot as hell, though. NEVER CHANGE.

And he's always had unreasonable expectations of her, although she's sometimes surprised by how much he tolerates.
only encourages my optimism. There is a lot to hope for here, I love that you've allowed for that even while insisting that they are both tremendously screwed up people.
Also, the sex, SERIOUSLY. It is a paragon that all awkward sex stories should aspire to.

I was completely torn when I was writing this because on one hand, I ship the hell out of Rorschach/Daniel no matter what gender they are, and on the other hand, I didn't want to sugarcoat a sketchy relationship, Twilight-style. It looks bad when Rorschach breaks into canon!Dan's house, but when he breaks into female!Dan's house it suddenly becomes A WORLD OF NO.
I had to think carefully about whether or not she'd flip the fuck out if she found him inside her home. My gut feeling was that she ought to flip the fuck out. But then I figured that, hey, she's shares a lot of strengths and flaws with canon!Dan, and if he's allowed to tolerate finding his violent ex-partner inside his home, then so is she.
The way you showed how she's so much more consciously assertive than Dan, as a product of her gender, because she has to navigate the two conflicting social expectations to Solve Other People's Problems and Don't ( ... )

I love your Danielle. She's assertive and spunky and like Dan, but NOT. She and Rorschach WORK together in a wrong-but-so-right way. (coherency, why do you fail me)
And maybe I've just been reading too much fic, but this relationship was not nearly as messed up as Danielle seems to think it is. It was a good break from all the angst I've been reading. <3
Off to catch up on all the WM fic I've been missing! (it should only take me, oh, about a month...)
hey look i'm back to bother you with typos:

Hee, it could've been a thousand times worse, yeah. Most of my reservations (and Danielle's, by extension) are really due to the fact that guys like Rorschach have 'bad news' written all over them. His attitudes to women and sexuality just... don't bode well. At all.
The idealist in me hopes that she'd help to balance him out. Maybe.
Fixed, thanks. Heh, I kept messing up the gendered pronouns while writing this fic. It was bizarre. Perhaps slash has ruined me forever.

Oh dear Lord, that broke my heart.
I don't know what else to say, this is amazing. I echo brancher in saying I feel like my own fic is idealized compared to yours.
And yet I am so, so glad you didn't have Rorschach leave.
But yeah, I'm so impressed at all you included here -- people's expectations of them, Twilight Lady, "I love you," "don't talk to me like that" and ... ack, I'm not making sense. But I love this! I really do.

The more I think about Rorschach's abandonment issues, and the way Dan sides with Veidt at Karnak, THE MORE ANGSTY IT GETS.
And thanks! (Heh, I don't think your fic is idealized at all, and I mean that in a good way.)
And yet I am so, so glad you didn't have Rorschach leave.
I couldn't do that twice in a row. I'm not that ruthless.
Thank you. :)

Hee, yeah - their 'baseline' sense of normalcy is a few units weirder than the majority's.
Thank you!
