That's basically why I ship it. Whenever I think about Ror/Dan, I always want them to work out, even though the odds are stacked against them.

I feel optimistic for them, I know you were making every effort to emphasize the terribleness of their behaviour but STILL. The way you showed how she's so much more consciously assertive than Dan, as a product of her gender, because she has to navigate the two conflicting social expectations to Solve Other People's Problems and Don't Get Raped - first, packing all those ideas in there is just ridiculously impressive, you are a badass. But also I think it means she's better equipped to handle Rorschach; she's had a lifetime's worth of practice at striving for impossible standards.

I was completely torn when I was writing this because on one hand, I ship the hell out of Rorschach/Daniel no matter what gender they are, and on the other hand, I didn't want to sugarcoat a sketchy relationship, Twilight-style. It looks bad when Rorschach breaks into canon!Dan's house, but when he breaks into female!Dan's house it suddenly becomes A WORLD OF NO.

I had to think carefully about whether or not she'd flip the fuck out if she found him inside her home. My gut feeling was that she ought to flip the fuck out. But then I figured that, hey, she's shares a lot of strengths and flaws with canon!Dan, and if he's allowed to tolerate finding his violent ex-partner inside his home, then so is she.

All right, so I'm trying to forcibly drag myself back into the Watchmen fandom, and this kind of helped a LOT.

I love your Danielle. She's assertive and spunky and like Dan, but NOT. She and Rorschach WORK together in a wrong-but-so-right way. (coherency, why do you fail me)

And maybe I've just been reading too much fic, but this relationship was not nearly as messed up as Danielle seems to think it is. It was a good break from all the angst I've been reading. <3

Hee, it could've been a thousand times worse, yeah. Most of my reservations (and Danielle's, by extension) are really due to the fact that guys like Rorschach have 'bad news' written all over them. His attitudes to women and sexuality just... don't bode well. At all.

The idealist in me hopes that she'd help to balance him out. Maybe.

This, exactly. I love how their dysfunctions dovetail in some odd way to make a 'normal' separate from the rest of the world (which, when you look at the ordinary people we saw in it, may not be such a bad thing). And the sex is super-awkward and yet so very hot. Excellent stuff, as always :D
