I feel optimistic for them, I know you were making every effort to emphasize the terribleness of their behaviour but STILL.

I was completely torn when I was writing this because on one hand, I ship the hell out of Rorschach/Daniel no matter what gender they are, and on the other hand, I didn't want to sugarcoat a sketchy relationship, Twilight-style. It looks bad when Rorschach breaks into canon!Dan's house, but when he breaks into female!Dan's house it suddenly becomes A WORLD OF NO.

I had to think carefully about whether or not she'd flip the fuck out if she found him inside her home. My gut feeling was that she ought to flip the fuck out. But then I figured that, hey, she's shares a lot of strengths and flaws with canon!Dan, and if he's allowed to tolerate finding his violent ex-partner inside his home, then so is she.

The way you showed how she's so much more consciously assertive than Dan, as a product of her gender, because she has to navigate the two conflicting social expectations to Solve Other People's Problems and Don't Get Raped - first, packing all those ideas in there is just ridiculously impressive, you are a badass. But also I think it means she's better equipped to handle Rorschach; she's had a lifetime's worth of practice at striving for impossible standards.

Thanks. :D Yeah, she has to be a bit tougher than canon!Dan, out of necessity. She'd have more to prove, so she couldn't afford to be seen as a pushover, but her social conditioning would probably make her try to be more empathetic. (And canon!Dan is pretty empathetic already, compared to the rest of the characters.) And Rorschach is so damn miserable-looking, I can see her being enough of a sap to take him under her wing and offer to heat his beans up for him and break him out of jail and stuff.

I can imagine her nursing fallen baby birds as a little girl, a la Magrat Garlick.

It is a paragon that all awkward sex stories should aspire to.
