I need new SCA garb. I'm tired of wearing the same stuff. I have spiffy-bright red wool gauze to make an over-gown à la the Chartes Cathedral statues, and I have golden light silk twill to make the under-gown. Now I need to figure out how to trim them.

Last night eestep had the most amazing swatch of wool gauze from Fashion Fabrics Club (this). I am very very tempted to pick up some for a bliaut. Just to see what it would be like out of a supper fine wool. I'm not sure it's an accurate reproduction of a period fine wool - as the texture is rather crepe-like - but how often does one find see-though wool ( Read more... )

For a while I was being all indecisive 'cause the hem braid I was planning to use for my skirt was (1) wool twill (instead of a plainer wool weave, which is on both of my 1860s-ish skirts) and was (2) 1" wide (rather then 3/4" inch wide like the aforementioned skirts).
