Some very short thoughts.
Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire: Well, it wasn't quite Wicked (and nothing could be) but it was excellent all the same. I'm so glad there's a third book coming out, my first thought when I read the ending was "what? It's missing a section!"
But other than that, I'm just happy to know what happened to Glinda and Princess Nastoya. Plus the maunts were all hilarious and badass.
(...uh, I like Trism. Just saying, is all.)
Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson: There are two problems with this book - it's too short, and there's no sequel. Seriously. Spooky at times, but not horror, just fascinating all the way through. Highly reccomended to anyone who likes urban fantasy and... awesome books. All this, and it takes place in Toronto! Canadian pride! Now I need to go find other books written by this author, who seems to do a lot of Carribean fantasy/sci-fi.
Duma Key by Stephen King: It would not surprise me if the two male protagonists in Stephen King's next book were actually doing it. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. But it's fun to watch as he becomes more and more progressive and inclusive in his writing. Way to go, Mr. King. I feel like giving you some sort of "gradually getting a clue" award.
As for the book itself, well, it was pretty good. Some parts were genuinely creepy and some were just kind of silly. I must say, I didn't see a few of the deaths coming, although I should have. What can I say? I was blindsided by possibly the only Stephen King book where the protagonist has *gasp!* no sons.
Also I finished watching Amatsuki.
People are silly. Forget Kon/Toki, Bonten/Ginshu... the greatest Amatsuki slash couple is clearly HEIHACHI/TSUYUKASA. It's like Rock Lee and Sakura! If Rock Lee looked like Astro Boy and Sakura was a dude! ...And a tree!
