Florida....fun in the sun
Sorry I haven’t updated in forever, I’ve been on a family vacation in Florida…and at some points I thought we were being taped for National Lampoon. And I want to say right now that I’m sorry it is SOOO long.
First of all the plan was that my dad was going to fly us down to Florida…Which I was excited about since the flight was expected to take 3.5 hours ….BUT nope a tropical storm, hit Florida the day we were going to fly out…and it wasn’t going to get better for 2 days….so what does my family decided to do spur of the moment…..YEAP, we are now going to DRIVE to St. George’s Island. In what you ask….well we tried to rent a large SUV but everything in Shreveport was sold out….nope so we drove the Honda Santa Fe….Yeap, thank god my car has a cracked windshield or otherwise all those miles would have been on my car….just how long did it take….24 hours (that includes stopping for food, sleep, the crazy storm, and of course the bathroom (which for my mother is every other hour!)). It was crazy 5 people + 1 dog + luggage….yeah this had a start of a fantastic vacation…Actually we almost did make it out of our driveway alive because we were about to kill each other, but I must say it got better and we all lived.
St. George Island is where we stayed at and if you ever get a chance go there because it is beautiful!!! My Aunt owns a house there and we rented the one next to here….It was amazing, everyone had there own bedroom and bath, we were right beside the water, and we had an elevator!! Which is great b/c going up and down all those stairs would have killed my knee.
I got burned, I got a temporary tattoo (which they said would last for 2-3 weeks but it is almost faded right now LIARS). Laid out more….I kayated with dolphins (who came by our house at least 3 times a day), and I went on a river exploring and snorkeled with Manatees (they were amazing!!!!). We ate tons of fresh sea food and had a great time…of course I got none of my reading done, but I have all week to do that. It was great just hanging out with the whole family (cousins, and grandmothers, aunts and uncle)
Highlight of the trip….Sophia my crazy dog…she loved the beach more than I did….she was an excellent crabber….she hunted them out and chased them until they ran into the waves. It was hilarious, people walking up and down the beach would stop and watch her…she became a minor celebrity of the beach.
Now I just got back…lacey and I fly back with my dad while Mom and Winston driving it back….somehow I lucked out. Now I’m just reading and getting prepared for Europe. Hope everyone else is having a great summer!
