WTF NOAA?! Chicken explosion

The only thing that's been consistent about weather forecast is that they've been WRONG for the last four days. Now we've got extremely high winds and pinprick precipitation. There's a good chance we'll lose power if this keeps up, usually due to a tree hitting the lines.

Everything was frozen today, covered with a hard crust of ex-snow, now ice. I had to bring buckets of water out to the critters. SO glad Jerry installed that outdoor hot water faucet.

Normally this wouldn't be a problem, except we ran out of propane about three hours ago and are dependent on a teeny electric heater to keep hypothermia at bay. I reallyreallyreally hope it warms up tomorrow, else getting out of here to get propane is going to be far too exciting. We did use it as an excuse to go out to dinner for our 5th beastieversary AND eat pie, we each got our own, even. Finally got that cheeseburger I'd been craving.

Other WTFage today.... One of the Sicilian buttercups (chicken) decided now was a good time to moult. I took her in to see if she was injured or showing any other signs of illness. I told Mike to look after her while I took my gloves off. He didn't have as good a handle on her as I'd assumed.

Chicken out of the tupperware bin, knocks everything off the table, stamps on the laptop, jumps to the stove, slides down the faucet, flaps to the dishes, back onto the table, lands on top of Mike's screen, jumps onto his head, flies to the back of the RV, and lands on the bed, squawking and shedding feathers the whole time. Mike finally gets his hands on her. "How'd you catch her in the first place?!"
"She was on the perch, I just picked her up."
He calms her down, we feed her some oats and water, I have a look. No injuries, and an encouraging amount of feathers coming in, still, I hope she gets a place in the middle of the huddle tonight. Mike hovered over her, preventing another heroic escape attempt-in which case we could probably have made a comforter with what she was leaving. He got her to eat a bit before we took her back out to the nesting box. I checked online and apparently this rapid molting isn't unusual in Buttercups, save for the timing.

Dentistry thing is ANNOYING. The gouge on the inside of my cheek has stopped hurting for the most part, but there's still ...I could easily bite it by accident if I'm not careful. The stitches have been driving me batty, salt water washes and all. Still, at least I'm off the damn vicodin.
Thank gawd Mom came to the rescue on most of that bill, I'm still waiting on a couple customers, who I'm fairly certain will pay me, but haven't yet. Aggravating.

Good news, I've got TWO new sites in the pipe, from people who WILL pay me. Yay! I'm excited.

Rustycon starts Friday! Debating whether to head over to the Marriott on Thursday, as we've had a dinner invite and they could probably use some help setting up, though we do have work to do. Looks like a really good turnout for this year, including my MOM!!!! My brother Joel is going to show up for a bit, but I doubt he'll stick around. He's probably afraid he'll catch our geekyness.

REALLY looking forward to getting Mom into a creative environment and letting her meet some of the people I've been talking about. I'm hoping this will help her kick start some of her latent artistic talent.

Back to trying to keep warm and picking up chicken feathers.

Goddamnit. We were worried about getting out of the DRIVEWAY, now there's a blizzard. Better be a chinook tomorrow. GAH! NOAA says there will be, which isn't promising, considering their accuracy lately.
