blah blah Otakon blah.

Otakon was the usual running around like crazy, changing, pictures, changing, scurrying around, finding people at inopportune times, meeting awesome people, and then having a blast after dinner. I think that this may have been one of the best Otakons I've been to- everyone was exceptionally great. I didn't feel like babysitting my camera, so I ( Read more... )

I think I like the picture of Kelly/Steve better than I like the picture(s) I took. It just looks so serious, but so ridiculous because he's a pirate.

That's pretty much the only picture that I took with my camera... it's pretty sad really. But thanks, and thank you again so much for taking photos of Kelly and I on Saturday!

Your recent post about Katsu cracked me up, btw. I'm telling you, the motivational pictures really help.

No problem, did any of the other pictures turn out as good? I really do need more practice in portraits with GIANT ACCESSORIES, because I was having trouble with it.

I won't be able to do up my room until mid-August, but once I get the pictures up, I'll snap a shot just for you guys to lol at.

It was the classic case of the photos that were in focus we were blinking or making retard faces and the blurry ones it looked like we were doing the opposite.
I've come to the conclusion that my sigma lens is SHIT though. I played with it for a good hour today trying to get consistently in-focus pictures and have decided that it's pretty much impossible. It didn't help that I had it stuck on f/1.4 when you were taking photos. Sorry. u_u So really, it's my fault. They were all framed very nicely, just AUGHLENS ruined it.

Have you ever used any of the Canon L series lenses? I was kind of considering selling all of my lenses and accessories to get one... either way, I think I need a nice zoom that doesn't suck monkey ass like my current one.

OH I would love to see what your room looks like all decorated motivational-like. Glad you got to lol at our apartment while it was decorated.

I am really sad to hear that. :[ I would've kept it at 1.4 except for a few pictures anyways. With my 50mm 1.4, I almost always shoot at that aperture.

I've never used the L series, but I have studied up on them. They're very very nice, but I prefer my 50mm 1.4 prime lens. I know they USED to make a 50mm 1.0 lens, but that goes for like $2k, hasn't been in production for a LONG time, and was almost considered more of a gimmick.

They always have rebate programs on the L lenses every 4-6 months or so, want me to give you the heads up when the next one takes place?

That would be awesome, thanks-! I think I'd have to get one used or significantly marked down if I do get one.

Sorry :( I really do blame the lens though- I love the way your photos come out normally and I've been irritated with this lens for a while.

Basically I'm a retard and I can't decide what I want to use it for. At the moment I take most of my pictures indoors so the fast lens is nice to have- but I'm realizing I could probably sell the ARGHSigma with some filters for the price of one of the cheaper zooms. The 70-200mm f/4 L is looking kind of nice... I've got no idea. I know I'll change my mind in five minutes.

Once you figure out what you're looking for, give me a heads up. I pretty much get the best deals on the planet since reselling used to be my job, and I'll hook you up.

I love photography talk so I'm ALL UP IN THIS CHAT. f/4 will make it reallly tough to do indoor photography without a tripod, but you know that. It'll look super nice though. How about an external flash with a wireless release for indoor stuff?

I've noticed when I mail Kelly, from time to time I just assume that you're going to see the email so I say things that I should be asking you. Also when I wanted to borrow your camera at the con for a little while, I did the same thing. I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT IS. I think it's a little rude but I don't mean to do it. It just popped into my head.

I had no idea the balloon shoot was with natural light from a window. Nice!

I find with 50mm it can feel fairly cramped, so yeahhhh, 70mm is really going to be a problem. If you haven't gone lens shopping the next time I see you, I could let you borrow my 50mm 1.4 for a day or so, you could give it a whirl.

... I just checked on Amazon and they have a 50mm 1.2 L lens. WHEN THE HELL DID THAT COME OUT. Ugh, I need to check on reviews of that bad boy. Maybe something like the 24-70mm 2.8 L would work for you?

Generally it does work that way, but sometimes we forget to pass on certain information. Don't worry about it, I creep myself out sometimes when I say 'we' instead of 'I' so often, people are going to start thinking I'm all messed-up in the head and using the royal plural or something ( ... )

I have no idea either, it's depressing.

I think there's a 25-105mm or so, but it's a 4 L. Goddamn trade-offs!

Nah, I still have both my lenses. The Canon 50mm 1.4, and the Sigma 10-22 ... something. I forget the aperture on that one. They're both really nice. The lenses kind of just sit around in my room, just waiting for the day I get a new camera. I'd gladly bring by one or both if you wanted to try them out. As for renting, it's great! Or at least buying from a merchant that has a REALLY GOOD return policy and abusing that. I can give you some tips in that regard too.

Awesome awesome awesome.

Yeah, I hate the trade-offs. Then when you finally find something that looks like a good mix of everything you might want it's major $$$$$$.
