Navigating the Reefs

Every few weeks, those of us who are subcontractors for this particular PP station are required to attend a morning briefing on top-grossing unsolved crimes. It is meant to be both informative and morale-boosting. In reality it is a waste of time.

I had been contemplating the intricacies of beginning to tackle corporate crime throughout, and so barely heard the duty officer's rote ending to his briefings: "And, hey -- let's be profitable out there."

On my way out, Donnie stopped me. He said, "You've been doing a good job on street crime, though doesn't that get boring? The really good officers branch out into other crimes. Infocrimes. Domestic disputes. Corporate malfeasance." He paused. "Yeah, I can see where you might be bored. Come talk to me tonight. I may be able to help you with that."

While it is in my nature to be suspicious of such offers of help, he is still ahead of me in earning, according to the station's leader board. But that gap is ever closing.
