Hi all, long time no write. It has been quite a busy week. Let's see. Classes are going well.
I am taking Shakespeare's Comedies and we have started off with Taming of the Shrew. I had a Eureka! type moment when we began reading the play in class the other day. I knew a long time ago that 10 Things I Hate About You was based on this play but I had forgot over the years and was excited when I figured it out on my own last week. LOL. It's always nice to have a modern day interpretation/comparison when working with Shakespeare. I am thinking about renting Kiss Me Kate to watch this weekend because it is also based on the play.
One of my other classes is Magazine Feature Writing. I have to come up with three story ideas that I could pitch to magazines. I will have to write two of them. If you have any suggestions about a great magazine type article feel free to let me know. So far I only have one idea. One of the librarians at OU-Chillicothe was a researcher for Dan Brown's books (Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code). I thought it would be really interesting to write a sort of profile piece on him.
Sign Language class is going well too. I can sign the alphabet, numbers, family member type words and some miscellaneous words such as dictionary and audiology. I don't know when those two words will ever be useful, but I know them just in case.
I am really enjoying tennis. So far the weather has been gorgeous for each time I have had tennis and I think that I am getting a little better each class. If anyone ever wants to play a little tennis with me I would be more than willing to pay the court rental fee. Just to warn you, I'm not that great at it yet, but I am definitely improving. I would love to find someone that I could do some practicing with. Dance is also a lot of fun this quarter, I like the teacher and have really enjoyed the classes.
Besides classes I have been doing a lot of reading lately. I have kind of been in a Nicholas Sparks mood this week and have gone back and read three of his books that I have read before. I am also reading Jose Canseco's book about steriods in baseball.
Last night I was checking the Cuyahoga County Public Library's employment listings (as I do every night). However, last night there were two positions that I could apply for. They are both part-time Public Service Assistant Positions. This means providing many of the same services the librarian does (help patrons, plan programming, order new books, cancel old books, etc.). The difference is that you do not have to have a Master's Degree for PSA positions. One of the positions is in Children's at the library that I work at now. The other is in Children's at the Parma Heights branch. I am totally overwhelmed by the fact that I could apply for these positions. I guess I had been anticipating that the expected career path for me would be to get a clerk's job first and then start looking for PSA jobs. Applying for a PSA job now is such a huge step for me. I am kind of really scared about this. My other big concern is how it would be if I happened to get the position at my library now. Because all of the children's room staff has known me as a page for six years, I don't know how the adjustment from page to PSA would go. I am really scared about this, but I think I am going to apply for both of the positions. It is a big step, but there is a good chance that I might not get either of them, but I guess it is worth a try. And if it doesn't work out, I can always become a porn star (right, Alex?).
Next Friday is the benefit concert sponsored by Newman with the proceeds going to Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. This concert has involved a great deal of planning and work on my part and the part of the rest of the Relay team but it will be a great time. Here are the details:

Well I think that is all for now. When I was reading the columns from the Plain Dealer this morning I saw this joke so I think I will leave you with that. Keep in mind that the joke means no disrespect to Pope John Paul II.
"Will the next pontiff follow the tradition of John Paul I and John Paul II in selecting his papal name? Would that make him Pope George Ringo?"
