Episode Notes: due South "Hawk & Handsaw"

Feb 18, 2007 17:26

I've seen this episode before, but I didn't remember it as being perfectly wonderful! Maybe because I was watching it with the hubby and he didn't like Fraser undercover (as himself) in the asylum. (I also, as you'll see, didn't remember most of the details ( Read more... )

Oh, *gosh* yes!! He was so *tasty* in that scene. And in those jeans and leather coat.

~Fraser LIED!! And then he’s so upset that he lied, so the only thing to do is make it not a lie by finding Ty. *hugs Fraser*

LOVED Fraser lying to help Ty! And I *loved* that he had to make the lie a truth. That was just so beautifully Fraser!

~Did you catch Ray’s smile after he made the comment about Eskimos not having a lot to do in the winter, as if he’s having so much fun busting Fraser’s butt, even though Fraser’s getting ready to sniff concrete? *g*

He was having *so* much fun teasing him!! And Fraser just totaly took it in stride, which is just so wonderful!! They're *such* good friends (at least) and I *love* that.

~It’s the next day, hence a change in attire, and we get to see the brown uniform. (I actually started to capitalize ( ... )

I've started this reply three times, lol, but I'm finding it hard to say what I mean, because I don't disagree with you, but I'm trying to put a finer point on it, which might just be beating a dead horse. *g*

I think you're right in that the Red Uniform is like a piece of armor that Fraser puts on when he goes to work, representing his office and his responsibility, but I think that being a Mountie is ingrained so deeply within him that he doesn't need the uniform to be a Mountie, because he just IS. However, on a more personal level, his hat is what symbolizes, to him, at least, his Mountie-ness. Not only does he wear it with his jeans and leather jacket *humina* while he's off-duty, and in the psych ward when he's wearing jammies, he seemed overly distress when his hat was shot back in Free Willy.

So maybe I can just say that the Red Uniform = Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, while The Hat = Fraser, Mountie, if that makes any sense at all, lol. *splits hairs*

Oh, definitely!! Definitely.

I agree with this completely too. (And particularly about the *humina* :D). I loved that he didn't want to give up his hat in the asylum. I'm trying to remember, but it seems like he tends to take the hat off when he's putting the Verbal Whammy on people. I know he didn't have it on when he was talking to Walter in this ep, and to Vinnie in the one with the Michelin Baby, and to Charlie in Dief's Day Off. Not sure about Mr. Lee in Chinatown. Maybe Verbally Whammy-ing people doesn't seem so Mountie-ish to him. :D

maybe I can just say that the Red Uniform = Constable ( ... )

--Ah, there's the pill making it's reappearance. He needs to be more careful though. In two and a half hours he probably actually got *some* of it into his system.

Ray asked Fraser how he was able to do that, and Fraser mentioned something about controlling one's saliva ducts/glands. Leave it to Ben to be able to control his autonomic nervous system!

--How young was Fraser when his mum died?

He was 6 years old.

Yeah, absolutely! I was wondering about that, but didn't comment on it. Even with controlling his saliva glands, the mouth is a moist environment and, as such, there would have been some dissolving of the pill. But probably a trivial amount.

I guess he doesn't have pockets in his jammies so he couldn't spit it out and pocket it or anything.

He was 6 years old.

I knew I had that number in my head, but I'm not sure where it's from so I didn't want to say.

Ray's brother - one of those throwaway lines in canon which probably wasn;t meant to be much but is. We never see the brother nor have another mention of him agian.

Hmmm...but Fraser's not questioning the *existence* of a brother, just that Ray might think of him naked :), so he's obviously mentioned this dead/absent/possibly estranged brother to Fraser before now.

Fraser in civvies make a nice change.

Fraser in civvies is *such* a happy making thing!!

I do like that. Becuase when you think about it some of things he does is crazy though he's clearly not schizophrenic which is what the doctor puts on his chart for some reason.

Well, obviously pretty much all of the doctors at this joint are quacks, if not downright evil, so...

I have to say Fraser and Ray found it really easy to find out who Walter is nad his history - why didn't the doctors think of that?Well, I think the reason it was fairly easy for Fraser (and remember they spent a *whole day* working on it, so it can't have been that simple) was that he was giving Walter' ( ... )

I like that. I suspect he must have. Although Fraser could have been reassuring Ray by not questioning him. He seems more interested in the mother naked bit.

Yes :-)

Very true there are aren't they?

was that he was giving Walter's statements credence. I think the quacks at the asylum were just writing off everything the man said because he's crazy. Fraser accepted that there was truth in his statement and worked from that truth...but I don't think others were willing to do that.True. But then they should have made soem attempt to track down if there's any relatives, a peice in a local paper wouldn;t have been too hard to arrange. He did seem more interested in the mother naked bit...and I'm not sure which would be stranger. ;D

True. But then they should have made soem attempt to track down if there's any relatives, a peice in a local paper wouldn;t have been too hard to arrange. But then you;d kinda have hoped the Priest might have made some attempt to track him down, knowing how hard Walter took his brother's death. But the Inuit words are interesting.

That's the truth! I love that the language has a word for "snow used to make an igloo".
