ayaka - Mikadzuki, Jewelry Day, First Message

I've only recently started noticing ayaka. No.. not ayaka from Ayaka's Surprise English Lesson series but Ayaka Iida (known only as ayaka.. mind the small 'a') the singer who was hailed as being the next Utada Hikaru.

I think her voice is kind of like a cross between Younha and melody. In terms of looks she is a bit like Hikki, she has the cute girl next door type (except Utada has a much wackier personality). Apparently she went to Voice music centre in Fukuoka. I wonder if it's the same music school YUI went to and learned her trade as well. That place must really be something.

She's been around for a while now but I only started to notice her after hearing I Believe, the ending song for Rondo. But I was really blown away after hearing her perform her latest single, Jewelry Day live at Music Station. Her voice is very powerful and the song is soothing. I wish I knew the tabs to the song as the melody sounds absolutely heavenly on the guitar. My only gripe is that it sometimes sounds like she's saying Jelly Day. Oh well neither makes sense anyway. Also the PV is pretty bland. The empty stage reminds me of the one from Mai Kuraki's Secret of My Heart PV.

Nothing to do with the post. I just miss Ayaka's Surprise Lessons XD

I think she still has ways to go and needs some more great songs under her belt before she could be compared to someone like Utada Hikaru. IMHO some of the songs on the singles and album are rather forgettable. But she has the voice to go very far, no doubt.

Recommended songs for first timers: Jewelry Day and Mikadzuki (both are MUST LISTENS esp. live versions if you can find them).. Maybe I Believe after that.. Wait, they're all ballads :P
